It will never happen but, the build is done by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, same diversified factory that assembles MB GLs, BMW 5 Series and 3 or 4 other vehicles, all luxury level. BMW provides all the components so they certainly wouldn't want a hardtop that outdoes the Z4 luxury appointments, that's simply not something they could afford to do with a lower volume vehicle, there can be no direct cannibalization. At least they try for there not to be, but of course there's the 918 Boxster and MB CLK, as well as Audi TT as direct competitors.
