Sirius antenna

Hello all,

I recently had a kenwood dnx6990hd installed and decided after the fact that i wanted to try out Sirius. I got the sxv200v1 kit and everything works fine but I'm having some trouble finding a good way to route the cabling for the antenna. I tried some easy access spots under the dash but the reception drops out constantly. Anyone find any somewhat easy to get to locations for an antenna?

i was thinking on top of the dash all the way up on the passenger side might work but i couldnt find an easy way to pull the wire through there. How hard is it to pull the dash up to gain access?

I was also thinking of tryin to stick it in the back near the brake light and pull the cable through. I just don't really want to have it outside since it's easy enough for someone to just rip it off

Give this thread a read. I currently have mine on the dash (passenger side), and am very disappointed. I get signal about 90% of the time, but it drops far too often. I wish I had routed it behind the antenna on my roof.

Sat antennae should be mounted on the outside of the vehicle. GPS you can get away with inside the car but siriusXM should go on the exterior. Also sounds like you may be plugging the antennae into the radio then running the wires, instead you should put the antennae where you want it placed and then run the wire back to the radio, this will make it much easier to get the wire through the tight gaps in the dash. I haven't done a sat antennae on this car but if I were to do it I would put the antennae on the front end of trunk then run it into the trunk and into the car through the grommet that has all of the other trunk wires running into the car, from there its just a matter of getting it up to the radio.

Unfortunately the stock unit does not have the universal sirius connection. You would probably need something like this ( http://www.tss-radio.com/siriusxm-ra...icles-ty2.html ) which is essentially the basic kit plus the harness/adapter.

The sxv200v1 will work out of the box with any aftermarket "siriusxm ready" head unit. I got it for $50 and there's currently a $50 rebate with a new subscription so i'll essentially have the hardware for free

I had a feeling that would be the case. That thread is perfect though. Shouldn't be too hard to get the wire run up behind the stock antenna. I'll have to give this a try today

I have a Kenwood DNX6990HD. It's a fantastic unit; has Garmin gps built in which means free updates and the excelon features are fantastic. It has higher voltage outputs and actually higher RMS wattage as well (22watts RMS) compared to 14-18 of most others such as Pioneer.

There is an easy way to get it there from under the speaker grill, but don't do it. I got poor radio reception. I placed it on the roof using this tutorial. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23622
