Red Scotch pads(get them at any paint store, not sure if Lowes/HD carries it). Using sand paper sucks, these pads work well and help reaching difficult areas.

Basically take your time scuffing them down to where there is absolutely no shine whatsoever anywhere on the face, lip, and lips edge. Ensure you get in between the spokes and any other tough corners to reach... this can be time consuming.

After you believe you're satisfied, shoot air all around the wheels face and check for any spots that look wet(haven't been scuffed sufficiently). Scuff them and make sure everything looks hazy/ashy.

After that... degrease the wheels/wipe em down. I suggest using an alcohol based degreaser as any moisture you don't let dry will not allow your paint or primer to bond to the surface properly. Whether you use primer or not is totally optional. I didn't as I found it unnecessary.

After that, tape the tires up... LAY THE TAPE AS FAR DOWN ON THE TIRE BEAD AS POSSIBLE. Then shoot the wheel with the airhose one more time to be safe to remove any particles and avoid having a grainy finish.

Then for paint/primer... your 1st coat you spray you want to be light. You want to be able to still see the original surface through it but have a definite hue to it. I suggest starting off by shooting the edges/insides of the spokes then working your way to lip and face. From there you want to make your next coats heavier but light enough to avoid any running.(by the time I finished my second coat I was almost at my final color outcome, smooth and evenly distributed).

*note that time between your coats will vary, I used a duplicolor can that was metalized.... it called for 10-15 minutes between coats and I followed that.

Hope that helps a little, sorry I didn't do a step by step as I was already exhausted. Sure there's plenty on Subaru boards though.

Looks good I know you save yourself a thousand or so from buying new rims by painting them

I wish that's how I worked... sadly, I'll probably have 3-5 sets of rims by the end of next summer. I have a problem, I admit it...

Traded someone my fr-s panels for their brz vents. Had to overnight to WA(aprox $32). But you can purchase the brz vents from Subaru unpainted for $86 per side aswell...

You brought the wheels back to life, i knew that a solid color will look better, and the bronze is amazing on the whiteout

Looks so much better. What paint did you use? Any idea how it'll hold up to winter use? I'm going to run my stock wheels with snows, but I'm tempted to paint them first.

I kind of want to paint my stock rims because I want bronze ones anyway...this does make it look pretty great. I would shoot some clear on them tho.
