Cam Sprockets 2017+ vs 2013-2016

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone knows if 2017+ cam sprockets will fit a 2013-2016 FT86?

They do have different part numbers. Does anyone know what the differences are? Can't seem to find any information regarding this.

Thanks in advance!

No, the little reluctor wheel on the cam sprocket that the cam position sensor picks up is different. 13'16' are innies, 17'+ are outies.

Ah I see that now, thank you for the information. I called some dealers and they said it would work but I'm not so sure. Looks like I'll err on the side of no for now.

Potentially it may work. The cam position sensor is basically just a hall effect sensor and the ECU is just looking for a change in signal to indicate cam position so theoretically it could learn it. There was a thread a while back with someone running different cam sprockets for the year of his car. It was fine for a while but I believe he eventually ended up with a code. I'd have to look for it. @Ultramaroon you remember that one?

IIRC from my limited research, the ECU from a 2013-2016 won't know what to do with the sprocket/sensors from a 2017+ . The part numbers are unique between the 2013-2016 and 2017+ engine series.

I do! I forget which way the ECU can compensate but it's a one-way trip. I don't remember if the original reluctors can stay with the car if the rest of the engine is swapped. I've always assumed so, but...
