If Harrop releases another SC for the GR86, and if I’m not blown away with the Porsches when I do the Porsche Driving Experience this summer, then I’ll probably do a GR86 with a built motor. I would have plenty of money to spend on parts if I didn’t buy a Porsche. It is just a hard package to beat.
The only way I don’t do the 86 is if I keep the BRZ as a dedicated track toy, and my daily becomes softer like a Supra, Porsche, Audi TTRS, Emira, etc., and even that is a big if. They all have flaws. The only flaw of the GR86 is the quality/premium/NVH/etc that makes it a little rougher to daily drive and a little less quality.

I ordered a 2015 BRZ new, ordered a 2023 BRZ new as well.
I think the new ones especially are perfect street cars. Quick enough to be fun, slow enough to keep you from getting in trouble. And I used to track sportbikes. Also had a '13 Mustang GT Track Pack. barking 4th gear up an onramp gets old. 1st/2nd were almost useless on the stock tires.

So basically, it doesn't matter how well the car performs or looks if I can't live with the human interface, or lack thereof.

Probably not. I don't care for the facelift, or the gen 2s. I would have to find a '15 or '16 in great shape and the right color to replace mine, which would probably be a pretty tall order.

I preferred the analog tachometer from the 1st gen (especially the white face one on the FR-S), but I’m used to the digital one on my BRZ2 now and it’s fine. I do love the added functionality it offers, namely showing tire pressures, oil/coolant temps, lap timer, etc.

To be fair when it comes to digital clusters and Toyota, all Toyota really does is just digitize an analog cluster...as oppose to creating some customizable ipad screen with wallpapers, screen savers and all that crap that others makes do. They get knocked for a lack of customizability...but jebus whats the point of that? It gives you all the information you need and thats pretty much it. Its a trend i hate with cars, everything has to be a screen, and everything has to have apps for some dumbass reason. Have you seen Idrive 8? One menu looks like a populated android/iphone home screen, and another looks like Jukebox UI when you're scrolling between a million different album offerings. Its so unnecessarily convoluted.
Going back to the main question, i probably wouldnt get another GR86 because 1.) priorities changed, i dont think i want another 2 door car (its mainly a family thing, getting my 2 year old kid in/out of the childseat in the back is a bit of a pain) 2.) I prefer driving a different car if i was in a position to get a new one. 3.) I think im ready to move on from the raw driving experience for something a bit more relaxed (something a bit quieter, maybe a bit less bumpy, yea Im getting old...) 4.) At this point i dont think i care whether my next car is stick or auto. Although its likely auto cuz my next preferences don't have stick options lol. |

I cant stop buying them. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
Starting with a 2013 BRZ, 2017 BRZ, 2022 BRZ, and now waiting for a 2023 GR86 to be delivered. When will this end! I cant find anything I like more. |

My 2006 350Z had displays for the tire pressures and that's almost 20 years ago.

But we also have people on this forum who didn't like turn signals that have been standard in german cars for decades, and felt the need to to change them out for first gen versions of the signal stalk.
