Example: Apex couldn't verify my wheel would clear the AP 8350 caliper (13.01.10153 Sprint kit) before I took a leap of faith and found out for myself.

In the image below the gap between VS-5RS 17x8.5 ET44 version spoke and AP 8350 caliper at the narrowest point is less than 4.1mm.
Yeah - that could be tight on the 17x8 ET40! If my calculation is correct, it could be as little as 1.75 mm of clearance.

After more thought, I can see how adding material to the back face to reduce offset would maintain adequate brake clearance, if the spoke profile is unchanged.
Whether offset is achieved via centerline shift or back face thickness, I would think the spokes would poke out more or less depending on wheel width.

Yes, but with the wheel rim being 12.7mm narrower, the outside face is 6.35mm closer to the rim centerline, and adding back 4mm with the lower +40 vs. +44mm offset means you still lose a net 2.35mm of clearance, so vs. the 4.1mm of clearance on the 18x8.5 ET44, there's as little as 1.75mm with those brakes.

Again, from what I gather, the face profile vs. the outer edge of the rim is identical for all C2 profile wheels, so the amount the spokes "poke out" is the same for all wheels with the same spec profile, regardless of rim width because the profile is vs. the outer rim edge. The spokes poking out more or less is where the other face profiles come into play, with 1 being the shallowest and 3 being the deepest concavity.

For some third party thoughts, I had a set of two Anthracite 17x9.5 VS5RS show up today that I'm going to be running with my extra two Anthracite 17x9.5 EC7R as my second set of track wheels.

My scale gave me 16.8lb for the VS5RS and 18.2lb for the EC7R, so pretty nice weight drop there. Not sure how accurate my scale is so the only thing to pay attention to is the nice 1.4lb delta.

Color wise the VS5RS seems a bit different shade than the EC7R but you'd never notice without having them side by side, both look great.

All in all, happy.

Can we get a clarification about the 17x8 faces? All the materials indicate they should look the same as 17x8.5, but is that really the case? I have never seen an actual picture of a 17x8 I think, so it would help a lot if you could post some.

Thanks!
Apologies for the delay on responding to this! You can expect the 17x8" ET40 to have a very similar face to our existing 17x8.5" ET44 and 17x9" ET48. If you lined them all up side by side there would be some very minor differences, but ultimately they all fall in the same face profile.

Unfortunately we do not have any real wheel photography we can share of that fitment at this time.

I can confirm that our 17x8" ET40 VS-5RS wheel will clear the AP 8350 (13.01.10147) and AP 8350 (13.01.10153) without spacers. The 17x8" ET40 SM-10RS however does require at least a 2mm spacer on the (13.01.10153) kit specifically for clearance.

We only consider a wheel as clearing brakes if there is at least 3mm+ of clearance from the spoke at the closest point and least 5mm+ of clearance away from the lip at the closest point.

Apologies for us not being able to initially answer your clearance questions, we've done quite a bit of testing for the more popular brake kits for these chassis so should there be any questions regarding those in the future, we should have an answer for you. If we don't and you can provide a brake template for the kit, we can also test it for you that way as well.

Hope this helps provide some peace of mind!

These are VS5-RS wheels (17" x 9" ET48) with 16mm spacers in front. There is about 2.5 degrees of camber all around.

Look at their fitment guide on their website. It's fantastic.

Looks great man! Thanks for the added pics - I was going to message you to see if you had anything from a front or rear 3/4 angle.

What size tires are you running? I tried to zoom in on one of the pics, but can't make it out clearly.
