I've used half-worn RE71Rs as "winter" tires here. As long as you don't cruise at eighty miles an hour in a downpour, you'll be fine. Went this entire season on newish Neova AD08s, they're actually fantastic in the rain. The only reason to buy all-seasons here is treadwear.

Your location might make you think winter tires are needed for rain, but in fact summer tires are more suitable for rain (with the exception of track/autoross oriented summer tires like 200TW or lower (like the RE71R you mentioned) that sacrifice wet traction for more dry grip). Winter tires are meant for below freezing temperatures, snow and ice. Summer tires are for above freezing and rain. All season and all weather are a compromise that sacrifices snow, ice, wet and dry traction but are often good enough for most climates and situations.

I'm very well aware, you're preaching to the choir. Which is why I'm confused by people who run all-seasons on a sports car in places like coastal California. They're either misinformed about tires, or have deliberately chosen to sacrifice handling and performance to save a few bucks, which makes me wonder why they bought a sports car in the first place.
