The new 17x8.5" ET44 is an easy bolt-on solution as shown above, and the new 17x9" ET48 has a slightly higher offset in comparison to the Gen I 9" fitments we offer (ET42 & ET35) so that the rear is easier to tuck under the fenders.

With that said, if a gen II owner has negative camber dialed in and is willing to trim their rear fenders, they can certainly go for one of our lower offset 9" "gen I" wheels.

Thanks Ryan.

In context of 9" width only, I know anything below 40-42 offset causes rubbing with fender in rear and anything above causes rubbing with suspension in front. I assume 48 would have same issue of rubbing with springs?

The set up I want does actually makes problem worse for me, I wanted slight negative camber in front only, no rear camber. Don't want to cut fenders but I would be going with aftermarket suspension along side wheel upgrade.

My commute takes me on some of the best roads in NY state, and I'll be looking for a new set of summer wheels and tires in the spring
Yes, this exactly.

Wish list for my gen 1 is clearing performance package Brembos and suspension with no rubbing or additional modifications necessary. Just want a no hassle (hub centric, no spacers) lighter wheel for 225/45 tires.

Personally, I would be fine with flow formed in that size for the balance of weight and strength for daily driving. Guessing the weight would still be around 17 pounds and would keep the price significantly less than forged.

As far as design, I don't really care as long as it comes in Anthracite or Satin Black. All the Apex wheels look great.

I can confirm from my own car that a 17x8" ET35 wheel fitted with 225/45R17 Pirelli P-Zero All Seasons does not rub at all with no other modifications (and my particular wheel choice clears the Performance Pack Brembo's on my 2020 BRZ no problem, is flow-formed and weighs 17 pounds without tires mounted, so your wish list is satisfied ).

Looks what I would call "factory flush" at stock ride height, and with the rear negative camber gained with a lowering spring drop and front camber to match via camber bolts and Pedders top mounts it looks just a *little* tucked at the top.

I almost feel like an ET40 or higher offset would be a little too tucked in, aesthetically, with an 8" width on 225/45's. That's why I've been hesitant to go to 18's with 225/40's, because there are only a couple of lightweight 18x8" ET35 options I've found, and I don't "love" either of them for various reasons. Almost everything else I've found is ET40 or higher offset.

If Apex offered a 17x8" or 18x8" ET35 wheel, I'd be all over it.

Tatsu333 Your car looks great! I'll have to look into Fast Wheels since I don't know much about them.

My thoughts on higher offset would be to keep closer to stock (with a comfortable margin for brake/suspension clearance), so less change in geometry. Since I'm not likely to change anything else in the near future, hoping to keep the overall balance the same. I'm not ready to go on a major upgrade spree, hence the mild wheel/tire combo.

That being said, I really don't know what I'm talking about, so appreciate the input here!

Thanks man!

Yeah, I initially had the same kind of thoughts as you regarding the offset, but it seems in order to have the nearly-flush look I was after with offsets close to stock it would mean running a 9" wide wheel, necessitating at least 245's because I also HATE the stretched look. The combo wouldn't have enough inner clearance without running coilovers (or spacers, which would defeat my intended purpose with the higher offset wheels), and it would also likely be necessary to use a steering rack limiter kit to avoid rubbing.

I ended up going with the Fast Wheels FC04's because I had run the same wheel on my previous car for a number of years on my local roads with no issues and really liked them, so they were a known quantity for me. They're also quite inexpensive to buy up here in Canada, being a Canadian company (though the wheels are manufactured in China). Make no mistake, though - they are not in the same league as APEX wheels.

FWIW, I felt the lower offset actually improved the weight / feel of the steering quite a bit for me on my BRZ - less floaty-feeling than before, with stronger self-centering, and that was still on the stock (Performance Pack) suspension.

All that said, if APEX were to offer a 17x8" ET35 wheel (or even better, an 18x8" ET35), it would be hard to say no to an upgrade...

We specifically engineered the 17x9" ET48 to be a perfect fit in the rear so enthusiasts would not be forced into trimming their fenders with most tires. While it can technically be installed up front without spacers and still clear a variety of aftermarket coilovers that have a slim silhouette, the fitment would visually look quite weak on the fender side and it can make contact with the tie rods at full lock. We recommend running 10-12mm spacers up front so you have a ton of clearance on the inside and so the wheels sit nice and flush with the fenders.

The 17x9" ET48 will accomplish exactly what you are looking for.

@Tatsu333 @DriftMethod Good discussion. We're working on an 8" solution for you guys!

I did exactly what Ryan suggested.
And I'm on board for a 17x8 that clears the AP Racing 9660.

Was there any rubbing at all with this setup? What about for track use? Thanks!

A lot of you have been asking to see on-car photos of our new 17x8.5" VS-5RS forged wheel fitment specifically designed for the Gen II, so we brought in a clean and 100% stock example to show just how easy this wheel and tire fitment is to implement. Aside from all of the functional features our VS-5RS forged wheel design offers, this setup is wider and lighter than stock and will bolt right up to the car without the need for spacers or fender mods.

We mounted 245/40-17 Falken RT660 tires which is a popular track oriented compound that runs quite wide, so this shoot really shows off one of the wider tire configurations an enthusiasts might run with this wheel setup. For more notes on tires and Gen 2-specific APEX wheel options, be sure to consult our fitment guide.

Even though this setup is wider than stock, you shouldn't run into any issues with rubbing on a stock car. If lowered you may need to run a small amount of negative camber, but ultimately the goal for this wheel sizing was to be as direct-fit as possible while still offering room for a wider tire.

We don't have anything specific just yet, but we do plans to run a number of group buys in 2023.
