so in other news, (take w/ gain of salt) bimmerpost insider is saying the 385hp B58D will be replacing the 335hp B58C Supra in all markets except the EU. if true, i guess this is Toyota's way of trying to stay competitive against the up coming C8.

That's interesting but strange that they'd replace or update the engine this soon. I would think realistically they'd just claim the new model year car was 385hp without doing any real changes as dynos are showing that's roughly what the current motor is making at the crank with the 335hp being to the wheels.

i thought so too, but VINs are showing a 382hp B58D Supra is coming. whether it will replace the 335hp B58C model is another question.

I think the Toyota came with the B58D this whole time. The press cars were making the same as the z4 on the dynos and the customer cars are making the same on the dyno. I think the wiki page and what ever other sources just had bad information. I dont think they are trying to change anything to compete with the corvette because nothing has changed since the press cars

the press cars were making 330ish hp. the Supra uses the B58C, but is tuned differently than the Z4. the US Z4 with the B58D has dyno around 360-370hp to the wheel. this is not coming from wiki. tons of info on this topic over at bimmerpost.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...no-horsepower/

this was the us spec press car that got dyno'd for car and driver and it was done at Livernois in Dearborn Heights, MI.

is there any pictures of the supra engine vin plate on bimmerpost? ill look for it if it's there.

from all the dynos i've seen from both with variations between dynnojets and mustang dynos, ect. it seems like they are putting down basically the same power to the ground.

actually going past my old notes... there is no b58d or b58c its just b58b and the only difference between the two is the B58B30M1 and B58B30O1 designations. i read through all the links you posted and some of that data is like 2 years old. the only pictures i found on the internet of the supra engine codes.... the closest thing i could find was the turbo identification number and its only a partial number so theres no way to reference the borg warners catalog.

yes i am aware. C&D had it at 339hp. some have been higher and others low. yes the dynos from the US Supra and Z4 aren't that different. as i explained earlier the Supra is tuned by Toyota. but that doesn't change the fact that it uses the B58C. maybe @Guff and chime in.

here is a picture of the Supra's engine. it has a two port intake. the B58D in the US Z4 has 6.

There is no B58(D) its just B58B across all B58 engine designations. both the supra and zz4 are going to have water cooled exhaust manifolds with the 2 port exhaust flang that connects them

the formal designation is B58B30M1-335 HP and B58B30O1-382 HP. click on the link above, thats what people on bimmerpost have been calling them B58D = B58B30B and B58C = B58B30C. as i have shown the two have different turbos and manifolds. bimmerpost insider also says the US Z4 also has stronger internals.
