Both objectification of women and puritanism were brought over from Europe. Both have survived in Europe, and both are under pressure in Europe today. The differences aren't that great, really. That's why I find subtle nuances such as the significance of pictures of women in underwear so interesting. For example, when travelling in India I realized how incredibly deep my lack of understanding ran. There were layers upon layers, millennia of diverging history preventing me from even coming close to grasping why people did, said and felt what they did. Apart from the basic needs of human kind, I had absolutely nothing in common with any of the nice people I met. When travelling in the U.S. it's more like meeting distant cousins with a different dialect (ok, different Germanic language) but there's tons of common ground. I felt I understand the broad outlines of how and why people live and think. And then I scared the crap out of a girl at a gas station by asking a simple question that probably marked me as a raving lunatic or an alien. So, I want to learn more. About the little things. Like how to inquire about the operational parameters of a gas pump without having people fainting of fear. Or, even better, how do you pay in advance for a full tank of gas? No battery back up, there hasn't been any power loss from what I can tell. Don't see how the location of the router is going to stop it from transmitting, ie, the lights for sending/receiving data aren't lighting up. This isn't a case of a bad signal, it's a dead router. |

Back when I was in school like 15 years ago, the owner's kids turned their old man's variety store right by the school campus into selling retro gaming stuff. Now they have the biggest store of its kind in TO. http://www.acgamesonline.com/ I grew up giving this vending machine a lot of my lunch money in the 80's. Possible solution.
You get an upgrade in internet speeds? When I changed ISP's a few years ago we had run into a problem with overloading the router itself. We were asking it to do too much at once and it was making us have to reset the router multiple times a day. Got a better one and havent had a problem since. Funny part was it's the ISP's modem/router. |

From what I read today, it does seem like the router is being overloaded, as someone was having very similar issues to me. Turns out that it's the 5GHz band that's the issue. The chipset seems to not like higher speeds on 5GHz, so after I turned that off (or maybe it was the different firmware version) things have been alright, but time will tell. |

Well my Surface Book only has a 2x2 antenna on WiFi-AC was the other reason, it was just too slow on the old WiFi-N router combo. My old trusty ThinkPad has a wicked 3x3 antenna on WiFi-N and it is reasonably fast even on the shit Bell routers. Thanks Lenovo for ruining the current ThinkPad line I can't even replace my old beat up one with anything decent. They are like the modern Honda of laptops. |
