Update, dealer called around 11am, stated that "the car is a disaster and all modified and stuff" so probably had nothing to do with warranty issue and rather something aftermarket(obvious b.s) As my car only has a catback exhaust, lowered and has Work Wheels. Siad they would look at it but i may have to pay diagnosis, I actually laughed when he said that, but agreed

Sounds like a similar issue to what the 370z guys were having with the steering lock.

Reminds me of back in the day, I had this brand new 1970 MGB-GT, when I got a recall notice to bring the car in IMMEDIATELY.

The problem was that on some cars, the steering wheel locking mechanism was locking the steering wheel, while making sharp turns.

Yep, I charted a route from the southern part of San Jose to the northern part of San Jose ...... without making any sharp turns ......

I had a similar issue my steering was locked and would not crank after the pushing the start button, it would just go in ACC. Well after i freaked out for a bit...I realized I forgot to lock the doors after getting out the car to see movie. So after I locked and unlocked the doors with the key fob and pressing the start button the steering lock came off and started right up.

ok everyone, just called and got an update.
Apparently my steering gear is stripped out! The advisor then followed with, this is not just something that happens, something had to have caused this. So i dont know if its going to be covered because this isn't normal. I responded with well is that not what warranty is for? Things that are not expected or normal, immediately he says, well it was in an accident in august so who knows what happened. I said I do, i got tapped at a traffic light and a cop happened to be there in the next lane and the dent popped out on its own. He just said I will call you tomorrow but I dont think they will cover it.

make sure you fight this if they try to deny your warranty claim. don't let them push you around and have you pay for it out of pocket.

unfortunatly wider wheels different offset wider sticker tyres alone dealer could argue it put more load on power steering components especially when stationary, then lowering alters suspension geometry and loads.

could have been caused by hitting curb hard as well

not saying it the cause but they certianly have ammunition for an arguement

from what I understand, they (the dealership) will have to prove that what they are saying is in fact what caused the problem in order to deny warranty

Don' t let them bs you. You need to make it obvious to them you will fight it. Be super polite but let them know if they try and deny something so idiotic you will have zero problem calling subaru/toyota and calling every media member on planet earth if you have to so you can embarrass their dealership over this idiocy.

There is nothing normal that could cause that. It is a manufacturer defect.

Well, yes, mfrom a legal prospective, that's true (Moss-Magnussen Act)

But if the dealer denies the claim and says your mods caused the defect, what are really going to do about it. Are you going to pay the legal expenses to challenge them in court, hire independent expert witnesses to support your claim?

Yeah, it's sad that there is a law that is supposed to protect consumers, but trying to actually use the law is not really feasible for most folks, in most cases.

that is why the media exists. In our 24 hour news cycle auto manufacturers doing something wrong is a juicy story to some bored reporter at some tv station somewhere.
