Everyone hates on the AT. Buuut, with sport mode I actually highly enjoy it. 9/10 it will shift exactly where I WOULD shift in a mt. And I can still be lazy in gridlock traffic to and from work every day

I did a very short test drive of the frs and after shifting to 2nd I never even shifted to 3rd just turned around and very disappointingly turned around. The car didn't have any torque. This car is unusual to me in that not only is it a flat out blast to drive hard as delivered, there is also so much room for improvement. You can leave it as a fun car in stock form or (granted it costs a fortune to do it right) turn it into an enviable racer or stop somewhere in between.

The paddles make it really fun on the curves. But ONLY complaint, is they are mounted to the actual wheel. So if you enter a true tight turn, you can no longer use the paddle.

With all that said, my wife will be gettin my current '13 AT frs and I'll be buying a '15 6mt at the beginning of the year.

If by "miles", you meant mph, not really. The car is not a dragster, although some owners are successfully converting them to that.
It simply doesn't have enough low end torque from the factory to launch from a standing start with real authority. Once the car is moving and you can keep the revs up, a good driver can keep it moving along at a nice speed. So, not 0 to 45, more like 15 to 60, or something like that.
To me it doesn't just "feel" faster than the cars the OP mentioned, it is, just not in a straight line. I've driven those types of cars and the simple day to day commute is much more fun when a flick of the wrist changes lanes with precision and the car flies around an on ramp. It is actually faster in some ways.
It's just that what it is designed to excel at is the kind of driving that includes very little starting from a line.

I prefer to keep both hands on the wheel, but in those conditions I just use the center console shifter. Hell, if the M/T guys can do it, so can we, right?

Yep yep. That's why I do love the paddles 98% of the time. You can hit just about any "normal" corner, downshift then up shift, and never take your foot off the gas or both hands off the wheel. To me personally, it makes me feel more "planted" with the car.

They don't cut out...they turn WITH the wheel. So let's say your hands are at 10-3. The paddles could be at 11-6. Obviously these are not "true" positions. But you got the point.

They are mounted to the steering wheel, instead of the steering column(such as on vettes).

I've never understood why people are disappointed when they drive a 2.0 liter NA and "discover" that it doesn't have much torque. How would it?

I also don't understand people who have experience with manual transmissions having a lot of trouble getting the twins moving without killing the engine... every clutch and engine is different, but you just feel for the release point and give it the gas! lol

But then again, I've never owned an automatic and have been driving for 25 years... and I grew up riding dirt bikes with clutches from age 5 - most of which were small bore 2 strokes.

If you want to see what having no low end torque feels like, ride an 85cc or 125cc 2 stroke motocross bike. Slipping the clutch is a necessity to even get any pull out of a corner. The engine in the twins is a torque monster compared to those bikes.

That's cause you need that power band . I been riding myself since I was 8. Still ride a yz250f.
