I'm the IT Director for an autogroup and we offer free oil changes to customers for life.

I change my own oil at home.

Wouldn't 5 oil changes be 2 years? They do oil changes every 5000-7500 miles.

No offense to any particular techs, the one and only time I let a dealer tech do my oil change I had a leaking oil drain plug gasket, then brought back and tech over tightened drain plug and then, there I was driving a loaner for a week. I probably had a worst case scenario apart from losing an engine. Just buy your fluids from either Toyota/Scion or Subaru and keep your receipts. Warranty should still hold. Most parts counters will ask mileage and vin and keep track of those things anyway. If you don't do your own maintenance and try doing this simple PM, (preventive maintenance) You might find you could save a few bucks on a number of things doable at home. If you really unsure have someone walk you through it or youtube probably has 20 videos of how to's. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

At home! It doesn't break your warranty. Keep receipts and write the mileage on them when you do a change.

When I got my car I thought the free for 2 years was cool even though I've always done my own. After the 2nd "free" change at the only local dealer, I went back to DIY. Then I got a Fumoto valve and oil changes take about 10 minutes, no mess. With the filter location, these cars are easy!

The story of my 2nd oil change:

I had an appt right when they opened so I could get back to work on time. I get there and there's a line going out the driveway. It took 15 minutes just to get someone to talk to me, at which point I was late for work. They said it'd be done before noon, which was good because I was off work at 11. I call at 11 and they don't answer - nobody in the service area. I call at 1130 and they say they'll check and call me back. I call at 12 and they say it'll be 2pm. WTF? I get a ride to my parents house to spend a couple of hours before I can drive home (I live 40 miles away). I call at 2 and they say 230. I call at 230 and they say 3. Finally I just get a ride over there to sit and wait. My car comes in the driveway right as I get there. I sign the paperwork and leave.

All's ok, right? Not!

The next day, I jack the car up to install my MTEC springs. As I do, I notice there's some oil on the bottom of the skid plate. I take off the skid plate and find a small lake of oil in it. WTF WTF? I pop the hood and find that the top of the engine has little puddles of oil in all of the nooks and crannies and there's oil dripping down the side of the engine bay!!!!! I then spend ~3 hours cleaning up the mess as best I can (there's still oil in some areas today, many months later).

Several days later, I get the "how'd we do" survey from Scion. I fill it out honestly and clearly. Several more days later, I get an email from the service manager asking how they did. Again, I answer honestly and clearly. I receive no response or word about any of it from either Scion or the dealership.

So that was the last time I will ever take advantage of "free" oil changes.

Any reputable places near Irvine?

I usually do it myself but don't have a jack since moving down to Cali.

I buy the fluids and filter at the dealer and write the mileage on my receipt for warranty purposes.

I will never go back to a dealership. Especially not for maintenance work, I've seen what goes on behind customer backs and it's terrifying to say the least(auto tech for 6yrs).

If you don't have a jack, they sell ramps you can use (even for the lowered ones) that work really well.
