Covid-19 - what are you doing to help? - Zweiter Teil

Starting again... This time please, please, wash hands, face and mouth out with soap and water before posting here. This will help to maintain a healthy thread that will keep you folks stuck at home amused and bemused.

Sorry @Boomerang, I just could not hijack your thread with my ramblings and just felt lost without somewhere to post dross...BTW, please change back your Avatar...

The following shows the status of the virus in the UK as of the 16th March..

Something that always weirds me out is the UK is full of English sounding place names.

According to that pic "The national picture" it's a case of painting by numbers.

Not quite, some of the names have evolved from previous conquering/marauding tribes.. and now sound "English"...

I really like how this map makes no distinction between Ireland and water...

Ya. Most place names there are bastardized Latin, Norman or Saxon.
I guess when you have place names such as Goonoo Goonoo,Nar Nar Goon and Wagga Wagga then the UK names do indeed sound "English". I dare anybody to walk into a pub in Wales or Scotland and say their place names sound English though!

My favourite Aussie place name is "Pimpinbudgie" since it bring funny pictures to mind as to what was going on to name it that.

Yes, Republic of Ireland is completely ignored as it's not part of the United Kingdom... It was ignored until the BREXIT kicked off, it then created a real headache. How to separate Europe from the UK but still maintaining the good relationships that have formed between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.. makes my head hurt....
