I think i've been experiencing this as well. I just bought a car from a member on here and it was worrying me a little since it is turbod. I was hoping it wasn't overheating something near the hot end of the turbo.
I'm glad it isn't something turbo related. I'll check the alternator area next time I smell it. |

Same for me, very intermittent. Almost smells like hot electronics sometimes, or hot clutch.
Still, worried me though, since I've recently added on foglights (new wires/electronics) and adjusted my clutch, and thought perhaps it was related. No signs of ridden clutch, and all wires are fine, so I guess it must be the same as everyone else. Hooray for "character". |

your picture is shows the same thing, the rubber it self is completely fried, and sort of a burnt dome on the inside of the rubber cap. the copper terminal looks pretty burnt too.. i took the alt off and if i give it a shake you can hear something rattling around inside. im going to replace the alt, but at aprox $250 per i don't want this to keep happening if the alt is not the cause.. im probably going to upgrade the alt positives wire too while im at it, do the two leads going from the Alt to the fuse box and then to the starter. did you ever find out what the source was for ur burnt terminal/alternator? did you have issues after? |
