Grandpa here. So I would like to take a poll here. I value the opinion of this forum. If you were buying a used BRZ which car would you choose. Both cars are exactly the same, (year, color, mileage, options price). Car #1 is the "grandpa car"as described in an earlier post. Car #2 is a car that was driven as it was designed to be driven. Both cars have all maintenance up to date.

You are stacking the poll anyway since the likelihood of finding and confirming each car is as claimed is improbable. Also need to clarify this frequently thrown around term "designed to be driven". It was designed to be a street car that can occasionally be used on a track. If somebody is beating it on a track (or the street for that matter) everyday it has been used beyond it's design criteria. On the flip side it was not designed to travel around at under 3,000K all the time so that "grampa" car has been driven beyond the criteria as well. There is a happy median. All in all it is just a car and cars can get driven and be just fine. Trying to preserve it by "grampa" driving it is just the waste of a good car.

I get that. But still I would like to know which car would most BRZ folks choose?

Think you will find it will be the one that was actually driven.

though really, this whole debate is just playing with shadow puppets. at the end of the day, there is no way to verify the authenticity of any of these claims. i bought a truck from an older guy, he was the 2nd owner from 2 years old to the present 15 years. he claimed he never towed with it. an obviously-used trailer ball was stuck in the hitch-- i later had to spend 25 minutes with a 5 pound sledge hammer to get that hitch out... he had a few receipts from the duration of owning it, mostly pep boys. he said he kept it around mostly for 4x4 in the winter, but rarely ever drove it. it was the lowest mileage truck i could find anywhere. i get it home, and realize that a significant portion of the bed no longer exists due to rust. i've lately been using his pep boy's receipts to follow what actually needs to be worked on, because the same issues are popping up that were 'repaired', because they weren't actually repaired, just cleaned up/covered over... the repair history of any vehicle, either verbal or through receipts, is almost useless outside of a private inspection.

This gets me to the point about if a engine has been broken in "well".
I see alot of talk about blowby, not just the twins, but alot of manufacturers, I put some of this down to poor ring to bore seal, I put that down to not loading the engine up "hard" within the first real heat cycle. Point of note is I have never had blowby issues in any engine I have broken in hard. My EJ STI for instance (a classic example for blowby), running 22psi, thrashing the life out it day on day out, never had a issue, others, who have "broken it in by the manual" end up with oily intakes and catch cans full of oil. Meh Opinions may vary
