I had one that was a little closer to the side wall. First shop told me it was unrepairable. They couldn't get me a replacement tire so I went elsewhere to buy the replacement. Second shop said they would gladly sell me a new one but that the tire was likely repairable. They fixed it and it has been fine for months.

I learned to plug tires working in a Sunoco station in the early 70s. I would plug that in a heartbeat.

Actually just went with the Slime Plug Kit on Amazon. Hopefully all works out. Been reading a lot on other forums and most people seem to be just fine with plugging as a complete solution, giving anecdotes of people saying that the tire industry just want's to sell tires and avoid liability. I definitely agree that a patch is probably more secure, and the right thing to do, but a plug will do just fine as most people here would agree. I'm sure there will be some people here that would disagree, but it is what it is.

Plugging will work but might leak. I use a patch/plug because I have access to them and can take the tire off the wheel, remount and balance after. Not patching the tire has more to do with liability than anything. Personally if I didn't have a shop I would just plug and go on about my day.

Hey, old man ...... you talken ta ME ......??

Yep, I plug AND patch. I reckon that is a holdover habit from driving a Miata (which doesn't have a spare tire) for eight years, out in the bush.

I carried a plug kit and a pump to get me to a town, then I'd have the tire patched.

BTW, I just wear suspenders now ...... all my belts ran out of notches .....
