That was not mine it was just to show how a big block 8 has a flat torque line. My go fast days were through the late 70s trough mid 90s. People here ovule laugh at the hp numbers we thought were great. Couple of my cars could blow the doors off some of the modern ones in a straight line but you needed 20 minutes and about 10 acres to make a turn. After years of living my life a quarter mile at a time it just got old.

It isn't that I am against more hp for these cars but more that people that want it fully understand all that more means to them and the platform. Also can't tolerate the guys that claim the car is too slow to drive safely. It isn't a slow car just a car that is slower than a few others.

More power (an easy 300hp) is available for anybody who wants and able to afford it. For the ones who don't want it, there is obviously no obligation. IMHO, having a turbo STI/TRD model is no big deal. I did an early morning drive this morning and it was a blast. Get out and enjoy driving your cars.

Really..... that seems impossibly fast for a dealer to reserve a car that just got announced. What did they say their allocation number was?

Their original idea was to dump most of the money into things that we the consumers cannot readily modify after purchasing the vehicle (i.e. chassis, driving position, ergonomics, etc). The upscaling and gadgetry were probably from the marketing dept.

Just imagine if they put the current 86 motor in the MX-5 ND platform and called it the next 86. Seems like it would be perfect. With a header / tune you'd be at or near the magic 10:1 weight:power ratio.

Unless they change to high cost materials it will never get lighter than when first released. Minimum weight while meeting all requirements and the target price point was the goal from day one. It has already gained weight since the beginning and will only go up.

The problem with that though is the loss of practicality that caused people to choose the 86/BRZ over the ND miata. Can't please everyone :/

I guess I don't mind it. I'm 6'3" so the 86 is a 2 seater for me.

My back seat is used on very rare occasions but when I need it I really need it. Was the main reason I ruled the Z cars out early in my search.

I pretty much never use the back seat and doubt I'll really ever use it (aside from a couple weeks ago when I drove my two adult siblings somewhere and my brother kinda laid sideways across both seats in back to fit).

The thing it's nice for is being able to fold them down and get so much more storage space. I transported a 43 inch tv in box just fine with plenty of space to spare because I could put the back seats down. If I couldn't I would've had to uber or have someone else drive.

That's practical.

They didn't have any real info yet just like the rest of us but know they should get 2-3, I'm basically just first on the reserve list and have dibs. Their guess was Sept-Nov for ordering time.

I was told the same by my dealer. I'm first on their list and they told me it would be September or October where an official order could be out in the system. I for one am really looking forward to this car. I sold my 2013 last summer (engine issues) and really miss the car. Ready to make this one a bad ass track car.
