Objectivity isn't going work.

I have to agree. At $35-38K this car would be attractive. At the price they are asking then I would go for a Cayman or a C7.

I've always found the Alpine conflicting for me. On one hand I find it very slick and cool. But on the other hand, it comes off as squished and ugly.

It's those nostrils that confuse me.. they make me feel weird things, I am unsure of my emotions and gender when looking deep into them. Why are they so far apart I ask myself, no wait they are lights, but why there? Is it a rally car, I don't know. Is it really good at snorting drugs? Maybe they are hypnosis devices.

The near-perfect sports car points the way to a glorious electric future

Didn't want to create another going electric topic, so I'll update the thread here. It looks that in similar vein to Cayman's future, the plan for Alpine is to become a high-performance electric brand. However, there still exists hope for a more enjoyable future. The man behind the engineering of the A110 car seems to be back to the brand (left for Byton in '18) and has some thoughts about future directions.

A quote from the article:
“How will the brand be able to marry that legacy of lightness with the weight and bulk that comes with battery power?”

“If I had the answer to that, I’d be a rich man. It’s a huge challenge. We can do amazing things with EVs in terms of straight-line acceleration, and even cheat physics a bit with true twin-axle torque vectoring and clever software, but the effect of mass on lateral acceleration – when you’re cornering – is unsolvable until batteries become a lot lighter. Which they will, but it won’t happen tomorrow.”

“I’m very interested in the work being done on ‘clean’ combustion engines, such as Porsche’s work on synthetic fuels, which is fascinating. So I can easily imagine a trend towards lightweight cars with perfectly-clean internal combustion engines, developed for the enthusiast market, nicely complementing the EVs that we will all be driving Monday to Friday. I’m a huge optimist about all this. We can address the environmental issues that we’ve created, and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.”

They tried to create a modern incarnation of the original Alpine (tarmac) rally car. Many of the parts are based on the Renault Megane (e.g., engine, transmission) and the chassis is all aluminum with a resemblance from the Lotus Elise. Not a coincidence if you count that the chief engineer (David Twohig) has an UK origin.

Considering Alpine is collaborating with Lotus on their new EV platform, and Lotus' recent claims that the new Type 135 will weight the same as the Emira (at around 3100 lbs), I doubt Alpine will have any big surprises for us in the short-mid term.

I'm still holding hopes for a gram-light EV Miata...
