Not as old as you might think. A number of places had those around me well into 2008 or so. Still 13 years ago, but not 30 or 40 like some might think.

I'm going to hazard a guess as to the cause here, and hopefully this helps you out. You might feel that you are saying things that seem obvious to you, that other people just don't seem to understand. But when challenged, you seem to have difficulty explaining why that obvious thing is true. The idea just makes so much sense until you have to put it into words to explain to someone. You still believe in the idea, but you can't quite make that logical connection apparent. That is certainly a problem I face every single day at least.

If that is the case, might I suggest the following strategy which has worked well for me in my professional life. When you encounter a challenge to something you can't explain at the moment:
1. Give yourself some time. You don't need to respond right away, most people won't care if you need some time to put together a reasoned response, especially not on a car forum.
2. Acknowledge the point. If you wind up in this situation, recognize the challenge as valid, because it is clearly something you have to think through. A valid challenge to your statement does not mean you have lost the debate.
3. Turn the challenge/point into a question(s). Challenges come in many forms, but turning it into a question helps to focus your thoughts finding what information the challenger (or yourself) might be missing.
4. Answer the question(s). Provide the requested information. I also recommend anticipating likely challenges to the answers and repeating steps 3 and 4 for those. Also, you should be prepared to come to the "wow, I'm wrong" or "I don't know how to answer that" conclusions when entering this step. Happens to me all the time.
5. Respond to the point. Identify what you are responding to, respond, and complete the response before moving on to something else. Responses may include refuting the point, providing a detailed explanation, or even conceding the point.
you're missing the point: he wants to be able to espouse his views and only get high fives for it. that's why he melts down when he's questioned about his posts.

They're not the ones chanting about their rights being taken away and fighting tooth and nail to find every loophole to get out of something that has an extremely low side effect risk.

I thought you want to be able to go to restaurants, the grocery store, the bar, etc. without being required to wear a mask or get vaccinated?

Just something to remind us that the US isn't alone with the heavy protests:

I think the reality behind this is the rabid right in the US and many European nations are just pissed off. Not just about the virus and associated mandates but about immigration, feminism, the environment, personal inconvenience and overall demands that they be less shitty.

It's human nature to be upset over petty things. We are all like that.

I don't think of the things at the center of the anger as petty. On the contrary, they are what have formed the foundations of the post WWII consensus that has allowed for progress in civil and human rights for the last 75 years.

Those ideas are what these people are trying to reverse.

Fuck it. Let them catch the real thing. Much worse side effects vs the vaccine. Make it a "natural immunity" camp or something. Not that natural immunity is as helpful...

Problem with this approach is that even vaccinated people can still be affected if they're high risk, like undergoing chemo, etc.

No...its just like 8 of us talking.

4 people keep liking 4 people's post with similar views.

Nothing of value will ever be gained from this.

No matter what either side brings to the table...it will never be good enough for the other side.

A lot of people just vented a bit and were made fun of in this thread from both sides. The name-calling is just silly, and the people assuming a moral high ground got old.

So, just sorta opting out. Good luck with the chat/thread. Hope you guys have happy holidays.
