I Rt-clicked the message and chose View Message Source. From that I am not certain what to look for but there are mentions of <noreply@ft86club.com> and "Received: from apache by www1.frsbrz.com with local (Exim 4.76)."
Then I did the same with another message from the forum and it contained the same mentions, so I guess it was legit to the extent that it came from the forum & was deleted as you suggested.
Nevertheless it seems like a very easy way to spam and the forum system should have a prevention system to trap before sending or improve it. Remember too that I searched for the forum name of LimShosy and it was not found.

It continues to disappoint me that the forum moderators have still not become involved in this thread or replied to my direct emails. An explanation would be of value to other members.
You're welcome. From the rest of us that gave constructive replies.

The spam was inserted just like a regular post. The system could not know it was spam.

A moderator/admin banned the sender but obviously did not go through and delete all the posts. That is why the name did not show up. There are only a couple of mods left so responses are limited.

This thread serves as notice to anybody that is concerned about it. It was just a normal email that happened to be triggered by a spam post and not a big deal.

I'm not too concerned about my email getting revealed. What can they do with that info? I'm not worried about Spam. Google does a great job of filtering that out and preventing me from clicking shit links.

If you're a vendor, maybe that could be a problem if they also get your password.

Also, I've embraced a general lack of privacy in favor or convenience.

My email address is my first name and last name @ gmail.com... which happens to be the address I used to register here. I also have the .com domain for my first and last name. That links to my LinkedIn which has even more info I've made public. I let Google know my location. Google also saves all of my CC info for fast checkout. Etc. Etc.

The odds of all that blowing up in my face? Like .000000001% if I don't do something really stupid like give out of SSN and a photo of my drivers license.

The one real concern that has been brought up in this thread is that the forum uses HTTP instead of HTTPS. This basically means that when you enter your username/password to log in, or enter your info to sign up for an account, that information is sent to the server as plain text. If that information is intercepted, a hacker could potentially just read your info. HTTPS encrypts that data, obviously making it harder or even impossible for someone who has intercepted the data to interpret it.

TL;DR: If you are signing up for or logging into a site that doesn't use HTTPS, don't use the same credentials that you do for more important stuff.

ranges from simple inconvenience when you may start to get spam, BIG inconvenience if it contains links to malware or viruses, it is a piece of info. about you which can build a profile leading to I.D. theft etc.

Try googling " email address security risks "

So guys I have this amazing business opportunity where I need to transfer 10 million USD, it the government won’t let me unless I can use your bank account and you keep a 10% fee. To do this you first need to send me some money so I can send you some money.

Also, I’m from Africa so don’t stress if anything looks weird. It’s totally legit.

No way this is legit. Grammar is not poor enough. Either that or you're a well educated Nigerian Prince. Where do I wire the money?
