I had used the plasti dip smoke on the tails with a couple coats of glossifier over it. It comes out nice but it hazes the led's in brake lights this bugged me so I ordered taillight overlays from @Bluebatmobile. Overall though, if you don't go close to a pitch black then you should be fine as our turn signals are bright enough imo. In for pics if you do go with the plastidip

I sprayed 2 light dusting coats and then 2 medium coats and then 1 heavy coat. The more coats= the darker red. After VHT I did 3 layers of clear coat and then wetsand. Now they look as dark as TOM's tail lights.

Is a week too long to wait before clear coat? I got an amazing finish but forgot to get clear! I want spraymax 2k but would have to wait for it to ship. Putting me at 7 or 8 days after ive painted the tails. Is that too long? If so ill have to settle for a different brand that I can get locally. Any suggestions on another good brand if a week is too long to wait?

It smooths everything down so the light doesn't feel or look rough. If you wet sand, the final product will be smooth and even looking, not chunky or blotchy.

Could be clearer, but happy with them. Might try to add some coats of clear.
This looks sick! Mind giving specific instructions on how to do it like this?

Thanks, I would if I could recall the details.

Pretty sure I taped off the pattern that looks red in the center area matching to the lines inside the light. Put down 2-3 coats of dark midnight tint then pulled off the tape, a little wet sanding then red tint the whole thing 2-3 coats. Then wet sanded and cleared to taste.

Hope that helps,

Did this a while ago, but I forgot to post a photo. Used Duplicolor Red Metalcast, 2 light layers, 3 medium, 1 semi-heavy. Wet sanding when necessary. Then, 3 medium coats of Duplicolor Acrylic Clear Coat. After that, I polished and waxed them.

Anyone have advice for taping off the signal lights? Any specific method? Or just use tape and cut to shape?

Tape > Cut shape > Spray Tint > Remove Cutout (Dry) > Clear Coat

Sound about right?

Thanks! As for the taping, all I know is that you need to be in a really clean environment and be really meticulous about the painting. When I had to wet sand any imperfections, the masking tape I used to seal the taillight would get a little wet and start to come off.

A friend of mine tried to do the signal cutouts and ended up having asymetric patterns
