Did they announce the tire or are you suggesting it was a 200tw tire?

Been away from this forum for a while after I sold my BRZ, but this spec class is interesting. Couple of questions.
1. Is there a best model year to get? I'm thinking of a 2014 BRZ Premium trim. I dislike halogens on the FRS. 2. Is the spec tire the only thing that hasn't been finalized? 3. How does the car drive with the spec parts compared to a stock twin? How does it daily? 4. What's the spec wheel to have? 5. What's the mid-pipe and muffler replacement to have? 6. Do you think the spec twin class will stay for long? Probably hard to answer. |

They're all within the same weights. I would think any non-leather car would be the one to have. 2. Is the spec tire the only thing that hasn't been finalized? For this year? Correct. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will announce the tire at the National Convention in a couple weeks. 3. How does the car drive with the spec parts compared to a stock twin? How does it daily? I cannot answer this. 4. What's the spec wheel to have? Will know when spec tire is released - just need to clear suspension & lip with max camber. 5. What's the mid-pipe and muffler replacement to have? The one that meets the minimum weight requirements along with sound restrictions at sites you participate at. 6. Do you think the spec twin class will stay for long? Probably hard to answer. I think it has the capability for success, unless aliens show up and people get discouraged at having to run against them. --kC

It drives well, handling closer to ST than Street. Firm but not harsh in daily.
Popularity will be there. Longevity can't be predicted. We already have about 5 cars and 10 people who have bought in locally. That's pretty insane for a brand new autocross class, imo. |

5. A popular option is stock mid pipe with a Nameless Single Exit 2.5" Muffled Track Pipe (they call it a track pipe but it has a muffler so it's legal)

By the way, has anyone reached to Apex Wheels to ask if their ARC 8 wheel could be ordered in our size?

An FRS should be lighter than a BRZ, and the 14s picked up a couple pounds over the '13, but minor revisions to the tune and manufacturing vs. a <10 lb difference are probably worth it.

I wouldn't give up my heated seats... I'll pretend I care about weight in totally other ways. Not that it's relevant since I'm in STX... where it's still not relevant.

Important distinction there. Solid choice IMO. Affordable, versatile enough to handle dd/autox/track days all well, good wet traction, and should have decent longevity too. Similar compound to the ZIIs, which is an excellent tire for all of the above.

I'm new to this but never heard of anyone running Falkens for autox. Are these the same Falkens that came out in the '00s? Or is it an updated version.
My first gut reaction to the spec tire was disappointment. Mainly because I know nothing of the tire. I certainly have less enthusiasm about this.. lol |

We don't run them because they are a 2nd tier tire. That doesn't mean they are bad. Mike Maier/Andy McKee used them on their One Lap Mustang and plenty use them in the Optima series.
Cheap, good in the wet/cold and long lasting. Not the best at any one thing, but a good all rounder and perhaps most importantly, unlikely to sell out. Makes sense. I hope they have some contingency as well.

I absolutely hated the Z2SS, so I'm hoping they're not quite like that tire.
