No 22 STi model, and the new gen WRX had a big production gap due to supply issues. Now that the new gen WRX is rolling, those numbers are likely going to come back up.

I’m not a manufacturing expert, but I’d guess Subaru makes more money on a GR86 than they do the BRZ. They may very well make more for Toyota and love it all the way to the bank. Plus, Americans have a lot of (blind) loyalty towards Toyota that is probably less present with Subaru.

BRZ had strong sales in 2021 for being leftover 2020 models.

Wow, 3,257 vehicles for 2022 YTD. I had assumed that production would be split 50:50, but given the larger volume of Toyota dealerships, that makes total sense. I was planning on buying a BRZ, but maybe I need to broaden my search given that I'm more likely to find a GR86 available.

It's not that fewer people are buying Subarus, it's that there are fewer Subarus to buy. Case in point, my wife wanted a Forester. To get what she wanted there was a 2-3 month wait and no guarantee she'd get her first choice colour. However, 3-4 weeks got her the exact model and colour Crosstrek she'd decided on.
Our local Subaru Dealer told us when the wife signed her deal that they were waiting on over 60 units that were sold. Many other customers of theirs did what my wife had and switched models or even went for low mileage trades. Because the inventory is that low!

We have to assume there are fewer Subarus to buy if the ratio is 1:4. I don’t think anyone is disputing the sales figures.

To be fair the people wanting STI's arent the ones wanting WRX's.....

And im pretty sure that theres a helluva lot more people who either want WRX's over STI's or would settle for a WRX over an STI.

Plus they can just transition over to a GR Corolla. Sure i think it is a smaller car than the STI hatch was but its....a hatch and has 300hp and AWD, pretty much like an STI.

The numbers have never been 50/50. The first year there were 10 times more FRS than BRZ. You totally nailed it on the larger volumes between the two the more dealerships and many, many more cars sold means Toyota will have more just out of market share. It was fun reading all the old conspiracy theories on why Toyota had so many more and Subaru was getting ripped off.
At this point neither seems to be available. Just because more are made doesn't mean more are around.
