Well, I ventured out into the wasteland today to do the weekly grocery shopping. I went to the wild side and dared enter Walmart. The unwashed masses were out in force. At the entrance where the masses were metered in there are usually two hand sanitizer stations for getting wipes to sanitize the sticky shopping cart handles. Both stations were empty! I tried to go over to the exit side to get a wipe from over there, but the guard lady stopped me and the other inbreds glared at me for slowing down the line.

Anyway, only about 30% of the customers were wearing masks. The ones that weren't were the usual demographics that are most susceptible to COVID-19. Yep, go figure.

After about 30 minutes, I couldn't stand my own bad breath from wearing the mask any longer and decided I had looked for "puffed pastries", what the hell they are, long enough and exited the store.

Just as I exited the store some jerk kid in a white 4 door, loud, car came zooming by and damn near hit this lady and her kid. I yelled at him but he just revved and popped his engine and roared off. I felt like throwing a can of beans through his back window -

Welp, that was my excitement for the day -

Well, since I told the granddaughters that it's too early to set up the pools, she ordered a inflatable trampoline (about 72" across). The pump to inflate this sucker was $25 extra. I told her I already had a pump that I could use to inflate it.

Well, this thing came today and I discovered that NONE of the nozzles came anywhere close to the opening of the filler tube!

So, while keeping the 3 ager off of it I finally gerry-rigged and adapter (yep, baling wire and duct tape - along with an "adapter" that I have no idea what it went to) -

Took my bi-weekly trip to the store today to stock up on about a third of what I actually wanted to because people are still hoarding shit. One thing that struck me as odd was the number of ads on the market radio for teeth whiteners. Seems kind of... pointless right now. I'll just buy a white mask.

So, what was "short" in your stores?

The only thing I wasn't expecting was Tylenol, but in hindsight I guess that does make sense. Usual stuff includes hand soap, coffee filters, any paper products (tissues, paper towels, and TP), and a decent chunk of the pre-prepped frozen food. I wasn't shopping for any, but there were only like 3 frozen pizzas left. Oh, and aluminum foil. That I didn't expect, either.

During this time, I have been inspecting critical infrastructure with drones. I feel very fortunate that I can keep working during all this craziness. We did have to change a lot of our business procedures including cleaning and sanitizing all equipment everyday after returning from the field. I can't stand the smell of disinfectant. Everything smells like it; from the vehicle to hardhat to my jacket. I even have a monitor hood that I have to stick my face in everyday and get a good whiff of that stuff.

Anyways, vendors have been contacting me to test their new applications or equipment in exchange for my review. One of them, Blue Vigil, let me evaluate a continuous tethered power supply for our inspection drone. I can mount a thermal sensor and fly 24/7 over my house for surveillance if I wanted. I wouldn't really do that... But, the uses are endless as long as the infrastructure will allow it.

Well, today was my first day off that didn't have bad weather, so I decided to do a test flight and hover. After about an hour, my stomach was growling and it was time to land. All went well and I'm now convinced that the RS-1000 is ready for field tests. I do love my work... even if it does smell like disinfectant.
