My predictions:
1 - If we have found 3 (possibly 5) cases in the US already there are 50 more that we dont know about

2 - I predicted on Monday - "By the end of the week we will have our first public school scare/lcokdown"

3 - By the end of the month we will have our first small town under Marshall Law.

What do we do when a small town is exposed and they refuse to enforce their own quarantine? Answer: National Guard roadblocks.

Mark my words.
FACT: Educated people are smart enough to know what to do.
FACT: MOST of the population of the US is NOT smart and does NOT act rationally in a panic.

I have already told my kids to not touch anyone, or share anything with anyone.
I have warned my HS age daughter that she needs to get ready to switch to home-schooling for the rest of the year.
Who are you, what is your expertise, and why should anyone take what you predict seriously? Betting your answer is along the lines of "just someone who did their research"

No, the irresponsible selfish one was the second fucking nurse who absolutely knew better and flew anyhow. What the fuck was she thinking? Took her own temperature, reported it to the CDC who apparently cleared her because her temp was half a degree too low? WTF? You treated the index patient.

Edit: Sorry. Got excited. A little late to the party.

I'm a healthcare worker in a hospital next to a major international airport

Part of the job, take the bad with the good. Anyone want to ride with me in my BRZ?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why dont you "rainbow & cheer" types tell US what the likely scenario is??

This will just some how magically get under control?

Keep in mind that trained healthcare workers took the normal precautions and THEY are infected.
What do you think will happen the first time a kid throws up in the school cafeteria and ends up having a fever? How many times did that happen across the US just today?
OMG, Stu. You seriously need a timeout.

Nobody should dismiss the Ebola climate as media sensationalism. That's incredibly ignorant.

What is known:
Presently, the CDC and WHO are forecasting that the situation will get severely worse. CDC says that by Jan of 2015, as many as 1.4 million infections may occur within Africa alone.

The virus has a 70% mortality rate.

The CDC has NOT classified it as air born - however they did recently update their classification as potentially transferable within "3 feet of infected or within same room".

They suspect the virus is able to attach to water molecules in the air. As the virus spreads, it has a higher likelihood of mutating into an air born virus.

Almost every hospital in the developed world is incapable of dealing with widespread Ebola.

Nigeria has been able to hold the virus off. They have a better canalization. They are a key in preventing the spread. Wide spread of the virus within Nigeria means fast spread into the United States, France, and Asia since Nigeria is an epicenter of commerce within western Africa.

For what it's worth, I've spoken to my father about this matter. He worked in the University of Nebraska epidemiology research as a doctor back in the 90s. Same unit that presently treating one of the Ebola victims. As one of the lead physicians within his current hospital, he admitted that they have almost zero capabilities of admitting someone with this type of infection.

October & November will be interesting months.

What about the incubation period? (2-21 days I believe)
I think what happened with Duncan is that he wasn't showing symptoms (therefore, got on the plane), but then developed the disease at a later time. So I think people could "slip through the cracks," and that's worrisome.

I'm not too worried, but I am definitely watching the news.

Small pox could wipe out many countries in africa. Here in the states, we keep it in a fridge. "just in case".
What a half baked statement. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance.

What I was referring to is when he visited the hospital with first stage symptoms and he was sent home. If he had been admitted then (and told the hospital he might have been exposed to Ebola virus), there is a good chance he would still be alive.
