I can't say for certain this is why but I see hes boosted and I know people making a lot of power often prefer longer gearing so they don't have to shift as much. It gets old quick when you go through 3rd gear in only 1 second because the car makes so much power.

It's also often track dependant. Like my own local track has some long increasing radius turns that I have to slow down a lot on entry but end up running out of gear before exit so my options are to short shift before the corner and fall out of the power band or shift mid corner which tends to upset the chassis and can be dangerous.

With roughly 300 crank hp (265WHP) the stock gearing forces me to shift into higher gears too quickly and 6th gear is a really high overdrive so at Pacific Raceways I'd loose speed if I shifted into 6th so had to stay in 5th just below redline for way too long; well before T1.

Basically, shifting the gear changes allows me to stay in a lower gear which actually gives me more power over a lap at most any track. Higher final drives are fine for quick acceleration when top speed is not a factor (street driven and autocross).

This is what the car looked like a couple months ago before I stripped the interior, changed to the Profi XL seats (had Sportsters for a couple of years; loved them but heavier and not as much support but were great when it was driven on the street).

Was at the Ridge Motorsports Park and this happened toward the end of a fine second session:

Left rear axle broke

Given this car has been heavily tracked for 4 years, 2 with the JRSC I can't say I'm surprised.

Ordered some DriveShaft Shop axles from CSG

Made it out to Pacific Raceways with the new DSS axles and new 17x9 Enkei PF01s with new Hankook Z214s (245/40). Car ran great and with the new tires and to no surprise got my best lap time at 1:36 in 85F ambient temps.

Can't wait for a 65F day!
