Just to clarify, he wasn't talking about absolute speed. Of course the new one is faster on the track. But, according to him, the old one was fun enough when driven hard — not so much when you drive "normally". The new one is faster on the track and nicer on regular roads.

I think he meant "nicer" as in more comfortable, not more fun. The more reviews I see, the more I think they refined the car, same as the Cayman throughout its generation. This is quite expected, but I'm not happy about it. Still, nothing beats a personal test drive, so the jury is still out.

Lol, my grandfather drove into a bank. Then they (thankfully) took his license. No amount of safety features was going to make it safe for him to be driving. Hopefully this is something that gets turned off with pedal dance (assuming that's still a thing).

I mean, these systems can only do so much. But yea, combine instant 1G acceleration with a growing population of older people who easily get confused about gas and brake, and park from drive, these features will only become more prevalent.

You see this a lot on rec. vehicles and motorcycles too. People forget to let go of the throttle when they aren't used to hand controls, or they don't understand how quickly the power comes on when you twist a throttle.

Driving should be regulated on levels approaching those for piloting aircraft. The burden for entry need not be financial, but demonstration of competence, including platform-specific should be required. The way we, in the U.S., hand out driver's licenses is laughable.
