Well, at least rear quarter windows and rear windows are plexiglass & CFRP are used on the roof, trunk, hood and several other places.

rear seats and ac can be easily deleted.

The most interesting part is the variable length intake manifold, very clever design which I expect to see in future generations

Born on the Nürburgring...But you'll never see one there(excluding the testmule), because it's Japan only. Ridiculous.

I've been waiting for this car to be released for a long time, hoping that it would be produced in bigger numbers. Now i can only hope that they decide to sell those parts. I want the whole intake setup!

My answer to first complain, GRMN spent over 3yrs engineering/deleveloping and hand crafted parts countless hrs spending R&D to win VLN 24hrs race and other races, of course it's not cheap. This is why it's limited edition. If you think, you can make better masterpiece that can win VLN 24hr race and other races FRS, then go for it. Gazoo Racing did and now, they're kind enough to sell that 86 (limited production but) to all the 86 maniacs. This is why FRS/BRZ was called "open canvas", you design your OWN FRS/BRZ to fit your wants & needs.

Second complain, don't hate Toyota, but thank Toyota. Yes, they're only bringing into Japan, but they're bringing more edi & parts. What other brand makes more different edi cars than Toyota? Maybe old Mazda (Miata) or maybe Ford (Mustang)? This means that, they haven't forgotten about the 86. They still care bout the 86. As long as Toyota keep developing, more parts will be made... more parts will be made means, more parts for us!

Instead of taking things in pessimistic way, gotta take it oppitmestic way! Do you prefer "Toyota & Subaru will stop making 86" news? I'll take these cool edi are releasing (even only in Japan) news than bad/sad 86 news any day of the wk.
I see your point, but if they apply the same policy than the 14R60(another piece of art IMO) those parts won't be available for the rest of us, so it's a pointless exercise. They basically work and develop stuff for just 100 cars(like the 14R60) and i think that's stupid. Sell the parts and get some extra money for all that hard work.

I would agree 100% with you IF they decide to sell those parts, though. Fingers crossed.

Toyota throws money at pointless R&D like an athlete at a strip club, but it's too much to make a hot version of the 86? BS. The 14R60, Griffon and GRMN are awesome, but what's the point if you can't even bother to sell the parts?

Both good points. The carbon fiber panels are something I definitely want for my FR-S.

Though, to play angel's advocate, the way an optimist could see it is the potential of what the 86 can do. This is Toyota claiming around 216 hp with extensive modifications to the engine, as well as a lot of whole other stuff done to the suspension, body, and aero.

Even if Toyota wanted to bring those here, I'll bet you that due to federal regulations, we'll see none of them on U.S shores.

I had a long ass reply to both of you... but sadly, my stupid Chrome web froze on me and I'm too damn lazy to re-type 2hrs of comment, so I'll keep it simple.

FYI they do sell some of parts. Example 14R parts are available for public (not 14R60), but do you see people buying them? Answer is "no". Toyota is asking same question to you guys. You guys asked for it, we provided, but not selling! Do you guys remember TRD made BBK? iirc $11k~$15k for front!! Yes, you read it correctly and lets not go into rear BBK and other TRD parts. $11k~$15k for simple 6 piston BBK, you can buy other BBK for quarter or less of price and work equally or better than TRD. TRD bucket recline seats? It's Bride Stradia seats, but it double of price. If you think TRD parts are expensive... you should see how expensive 14R kits are. My recommendation, hold on tight to your chair before looking at the price.

With that comment, why aren't you guys buying those parts? You guys asked for it, they have delivered. It's time for you guys to fork over your life saving to them.

Joke on the side, for them, it's cheaper and profitable to make "Limited Edition". Why bother waste making small margin profit? They're not there to become rich. They're there to race, win! They're there to prove that they can make a fast car and stand at the podium. & when I say "they", I mean "GR". Again, they were kind enough to share their knowledge and experience they had working on 86 while racing at Nurburgring and other races. TBH I didn't expect GR will release their ver. 86GRMN is more rare than 14R60 imo. If I had $60k to buy that car and able to import it to see all the stuff done to it, I'll be happiest man. Hell, if they sold me their VLN race ver 86, I'll give both of my nuts and die happy lmao

The 14R60 parts are not available to the public, but if you know the right people, pull enough strings, and got a really loaded bank account, it's attainable. Just like how some of the BMW Motorsport GT4 lip were being sold while they are not suppose to be available for public ($4500+ for a CF lip)

The price of a 14R60 front bumper would be $5000-6000 or more, and most if not all people here are probably not willing to pay that kind of money for it.

Another example, the 14R parts are available in China, at the current exchange rate, the estimated price would be:
Front lip: $650
Rear diffuser: $1550
Side skirt: $600
Rear bumper: $650
GT Wing(CF): $3800
Centered exhaust (catback, stainless steel):$1600
TRD BBK (F6,R4): $9000
TRD BBK (F4,R2): $5650

On the other hand, I do suspect that TRD/GRMN might use the data from the 14R60 and GRMN for the facelifted or next gen 86. Remember the chassis of the facelifted model was tuned by Gazoo Racing, probably some of the other parts will be altered and eventually make it to a high performance production version, although it may not be available in the US.

YIKES. At those prices, I honestly don't think they want to sell it. Reminds me of that sick joke they played trying to sell a supercharger for the MSRP of a FRS.

Toyota is like the husband who was forced by his wife to sell his mid-life crisis car. So he priced out of the market and is like "I'm sorry honey...I have no clue why no one is buying. I guess I'll have to keep it".

The engine parts allow them to develop the next generation and beta test it on small numbers of people willing to spend a small fortune. The new intake manifold will be on the next generation 86

Since we don't know what engine the next gen 86 will be using, I would say it's safer to say that they are will use what they learned from developing the new manifold and the next gen/next performance model intake will derive from it.
