Those who are asking me who tuned the car are missing the point. This tuner has dozens of cars doing fine with higher power levels than I was making.

Motors are machines and are not infallible, shit breaks. Everyone I know who tracks their car regularly has broken something, actually several things.

Just apply the cost of modifying the rod towards better pistons and have a more bulletproof setup.
i wanted to maintain the 12.5 to 1 cr. i hevent been able to find anyone who stocks this CR. id have to get the made.

@Andew727

Contact Outfront Motorsports. I believe Jeremy has some custom CP pistons for our engine in 12.5:1 CR

Built to order; I don't think we've ever had anyone ask for pistons without wanting a host of other options (WPC, Ceramics, etc.).

Looking like the San Andreas fault line on the top of my motor...

I'd like the next motor to be 12.5:1 CR, 7.5k redline (maybe slightly higher if it can be managed safely), C38, HBP, E85, I'm exploring what the motor needs to be safe under those conditions.

Mine popped recently after about two weeks of forced induction. I went with the "safest" supercharger system, had it conservatively tuned to 20 degrees of advance and a 7K limiter, have the JR oil cooler and a full blown radiator but it still threw a rod accelerating onto a freeway which cut a trench across the top of the block.

Moral of the story is that blame is not an issue, understanding the potential risk and how modifications will change the odds is. You can not bet your motor that having a good tune and cooling provides any guarantee, they just change the odds a little more in your favor. I will be starting a new thread soon focused on the choices to be made when replacing a blown motor, Thankfully I have the resources to do what I want and I really expected to eventually have a built motor or a V8.

BTW there are 4 other cars with blown motors at the same shop in Orlando as I write this so yes there is an issue.
Did you already start that thread?

I haven't, been very busy with work and recuperating from a Chump car crash. I have laid out a build for the car but had to fund a new daily driver for my wife first. That's now done so now it's time to make the FRS much more track focused.

I will begin a thread soon or join yours if you want to get one started. The damage to your block looks remarkably similar to mine. Wonder if the rods are breaking at a specific point in the stroke ?

I am starting with a new oem block, going to forego having it sleeved and plan to use Wise Co 11.5 pistons.

I've also sort of laid something out but I'm admittedly a noob when it comes to building motors. I found a couple threads on building motors here on the forum as well as a couple shopping lists but nothing that runs through the available part options, why to pick one vs another based on manufacturer and failure point, what you can reuse vs what you absolutely want new, and other factors. At least, I'm curious about those things.

I'm in the same boat of looking for options to build. I'm having a hard time though justifing a DIY on this engine though. I can't really find much money to be saved vs buying a block from Full Blown or MAPerformance... at best I'm saving $500 when I fully finish my shopping cart and thats not getting some of the benefits the short block packages have such as being balanced and blueprinted... :/

Yeah, I have a hard time grasping how the actual fuck the individual components and a DIY rebuild are almost the same price as just ordering a short block and then getting the core charge back. It really makes no sense and even seems a little shady to me, actually. Some price fuckery going on IMO.

if you're looking to retain stock 12.5 CR, is there any reason to upgrade from the OEM pistons?
