I'm super curious to see if the rumors of the S650 being based on the Explorer platform (CD6) prove true. Maybe it winds up being meh.

Since the press release was published the majority of them have called it the correct name, just Z. Especially the more legit less click baitish ones. Even if that wasn’t the case are you using ignorance as an excuse? It takes two seconds to Google Nissan press release. Even my thread title says Nissan Z.

Yeah, I forgot about that. When I saw pictures of the Mustang protos (not sure which level, can be mules), appeared to me to be still using S197 platform.

CD6 platform is showing to be a good base, if they can use that to improve rigidity and NVH (Mustang sometimes is bashed because of the “rental car” base platform), I think it would be good. Also, Ford may be able to do as Stellantis and prepare a car that is able to carry ICE, PHEV and EV on the same with small modifications, which can give a longer cycle.

I actually bought my BRZ new because it had a curb weight a hair heavier than a new S13 240SX.

It also makes the choice of any new sports car easy for me, it's either Miata, this platform, or base model Cayman if I don't care for utility of any kind.

Except every previous Z sold in the US was named around its displacement. You could call it 300Z, but you don't shrink your number (see BMW and MB), so 400 is entirely logical as it is both larger than the previous moniker and relates to the power output.

Anyway, how about that 400Z in grey? I liked the revised front end they showed recently. But I'm curious to see how the 400Z's platform holds up given its underpinnings are getting so old. Perhaps the 400Z is a stop gap product and we'll see an EV replacement before the decade is up.

it's just about 10 years now to the first 'deadline'

the crystal ball thinks it's realistic that this is about it for anything ICE powered.

i think we're going to see that hardcore 2035 deadline transition melt like icecream in a desert to 2045, and then 2055, and then 2065...
