Now you have demonstrated you would last about 20 minutes in the military because the mental stress alone would wipe you out.
Apparently the mental stress of realizing I'm apparently relying on a squad of geriatrics to watch my back. I'm confident I can take orders. I'm outside I can shoot someone in the face and sleep soundly that night. What I can't handle is incompetent pricks telling me what to do. Or sitting around doing nothing all day. And then, God help you if you get shot, you're gonna lie on the ground and bleed out cuz Barbie sucked her way into your squad and she can't lift her purse, let alone a body. No thanks. @Ashikabi

This is a good community and a better thread. I would recommend you delete your last post and catch some sleep and come back tomorrow with a fresh mind set.

We all have bad days and snap. Even on forums. I've done it before. I'm sure all of us will roll with it just fine if you take a few breaths on this one.

I know you mean well and I appreciate you trying to diffuse the situation in a civilised fashion. But I can't/won't delete my post because I believe it to be true. It was much worse but I amended it. I'm not sorry and I'm not apologizing to anyone. You never asked me to but I feel deleting my post is the same as backing down. Which I can't do. I already admitted my idea of what the military should be isn't what it actually is. I'll do no more

@Ashikabi, It's just too bad that you have such massive misconceptions and ignorance of the military.

Just lay low, there Phijkchu ....... just keep your head down, I don't think @Tcoat is done with @Ashikabi quite yet. Tcoat is sort of like a bulldog laying over in the corner, he is just waiting for ol Ashikabi to move ..... then he will attack again....

Meanwhile, don't worry about the military protecting our country. If push comes to shove, Tcoat and myself and lots of other veterans will drag out our M-14s, M-1s, .45s and bayonets to come protect you.

My favorite hand-to-hand weapon, that I keep by my front door and literally have in hand if I don't know the person at the door.

humfrz

PS - I don't care how many muscles the dude has, he's gonna get hurt by that weapon.

I really don't get your whole sexist thing. The line of women who could out shoot, out carry, and out fight you on your best day ever is a long one. Just because not every soldier is a medic doesn't mean they should GTFO. Just because every soldier can't lead doesn't mean they should GTFO. I've no idea what you do for a living, but you don't exactly strike me as a management type.

I went to Berkeley with a former Seal on GI Bill. He was a really nice guy. Had nothing to prove. Ladies loved him. He was also a total flake, and I'm pretty sure he was a pot addict. Even in special units, you probably get all types.

I met another guy who claimed to be a former sniper in Nam. He was totally crazy but very interesting. He ended up stealing from the bookstore he worked at and then ran off. Always had a layer of violence under the surface.

I'm not even sure I'll take it, unless they can match some very specific requests I have. More just looking to see what's out there, really. The thing that makes me not want to really consider this new job seriously is that the grass is always greener. I have decent job security, and, talking to my boss during my performance review last month, I'm a leading candidate for a promotion next year which would be the same position I've applied for at this other place.
During the dot com heyday, my uncle got a sweet deal to switch to an encryption company. Big pay raise. Great benefits. A year later, they folded completely. He struggled for years because of that decision. Only switch if you see stability over yonder, and if they make the deal sweet. Security has real value. If you have an offer, you can also talk to your boss about how you want your own job to change sooner rather than later.

As for admin vs grunt, that really matters when you hit fifty. Bodies do wear out. Injuries skyrocket. A lot of firemen go out on disability because what used to do nothing actually injures them.

What do you do anyway? Turn tricks?

I believe his job does involve laying pipe. Not sure if he is on the giving or receiving end though.
