Wheel offset on watanabes?
Hey guys, I've been following these forums for a little bit to find out more information on the car we're all clearly obsessed with, and I've been pretty impressed with how much some of you seem to know about modifying cars. I really liked the red panda paint job with watanabe's illustration, and it made me wonder how possible/reasonable it would be to actually put some watanabe's on an ft-86 when it comes out. I think it would look great if you could get a size that fills the wheel well enough visually, but I don't really know much about how the offset on a "deep-dish" wheel like that would affect handling/performance. Anyone know much about these type of wheels?

A deep offset( big lip) will affect the scrub radius.
some cars love deep offsets (240sx) and others not so much (s2000). we will have to wait till the car comes out to really know anything about the lower offsets that we can run on the FT86. watanabes are so old school gangster i dont know if they will work with the ft. dont get me wrong the red panda in your avatar looks sweet but hell i dont even know if they make 18 inch wheels that this car will be begging for. just my opinion. |

Yeah, iirc currently Watanabe make up to 16's. Someone had special order 17's to put it on S2k... but it cost them an arm & leg for it.
Go for Volk, Advan, BBS, Enkei or even Buddy Club. For the price you pay for Watanabe you can get same or better rims. |

actually 17s are available without special order, but i don't think the crazy negative offsets are available at 17. as ichitaka said, other brands cost about the same and weigh less, others like enkei cost considerably less. but if you're looking for 15s you're prob not gonna find a lighter wheel than magnesium watanabes.

if the FT86 comes out in a 5x114.3 hope and prey watanabe will make a lug pattern cuz, right now they don't have 5x114.3 on r-type or F8-type 8 spoke wheels...

Thanks for the insight, guys! I guess this is probably something that we won't be able to speculate much on until it gets closer to the release date.

Yeah~! I've seen that pic before. Yeah, it's available in Japan, but I don't think they have it in US.
