OK, I haven't checked my injectors yet but I am getting some backfiring/popping between aggressive shifts occasionally on my BRZ w/ AVO Stage 1 turbo kit. During my major cam issues and an idle stall/shudder event, I did throw a P0300 misfire, but it hasn't done it again since the cam repairs and I have not thrown a single code since then.

Is the slight popping/backfiring between shifts normal with a high-flow cat and engine back exhaust, or should I start worrying about replacing injectors etc?

Is there any correlation to VIN#s or manufacture dates?

Some backfiring popping from the exhaust on throttle/RPM transition is not a sign of preignition/knock/ping/detonation, especially with aftermarket exhaust, FI, tuning, etc.

Im all stock and experience it rarely. Its not a pleasant sound either, Is yours a muffled single pop coming straight from under the car?

When you are turbo and have a vented to atmosphere BOV and it is post MAF sensor like the AVO kit, you will be RICH on shifts (lift gas pedal BOV dumps metered air to atmosphere gas is left in the cylinder to be burned), and thus the unburned fuel will backfire and pop in the exhaust. That has nothing to do with this issue.

My VIN is **2379 (BRZ).

@wheelhaus, thanks for the response all the injector failure threads are making me paranoid.

@Carwhisperer, we may be experiencing different things but I don't know. The main analogy I can make is to my old 2.5 RS which had headerback exhaust with Borla UEL's, under shifting there is a slight burble or rasp, or occasionally a single muffled pop as you describe between shifts (mostly when driving aggressively). But no CEL's or DTC's when it occurs and my Ecutek logs do not show me running lean...if anything Paul says I'm running rich.

@Sportsguy83 David I have a full recirc BOV, but you are correct that Paul has advised I am running a bit rich. I suspected this was unburned fuel but again, am just paranoid and better safe than sorry!

After the misfires I'm still a bit concerned but I'll just monitor and keep an eye on it.

After the misfires I still feel like the best practice would be to check plugs and the injectors so I better have someone do that just in case...
I have the AVO BOV set 50/50 to vent and you can hear the pop on most shifts, but its unburned fuel, you are probably getting something very similar.

I've heard the popping from directly under neath the car (almost right below my butt it feels like) but I have not thrown any codes yet and it's only happened twice. I'm waiting for the injector tune fix from FA20club to see if it happens after I flash the update.

Running slighlty modded. FA20club CAI and Tune.

VIN # *******5563

if Toyota/Subaru doesn't come out with solution for long time, other alternative is getting ECU flashe through Tuners

I'm hoping just an ECU flash can be the remedy. From what I've read it looks like it is a heat issue with the injector seals so I'm not sure if new calibrations can fix this. Anyone who knows that they are talking about want to chime in?

The heat issue is caused by the ECU mapping resulting in detonation. Fix the ECU, fix the problem (in theory.)

Beautiful! I'm tempted to stop driving and just hitch rides to work until I get the update in my inbox. Especially since it just keeps getting hotter around here.

Hey take off the bottom "I do not have an issue" pole. It's going to throw everything else off once there is a good amount of feedback. Unless if you know how to do conversions well.
