White smoke during winter

Heya, I have noticed there is white smoke coming from exhaust while I start my car. Here in New Zealand it is winter and temperature is around around 11 degree Celsius. I have noticed even after driving 20KM, when I stop completely, still some white smoke is coming. Even later in the day, when temperature is littlebit up, still I can see very light white smoke.
Is it normal for winter?

Most likely you are just seeing the products of combustion, plus a bit of water vapor - not to worry.

If anyone here has experienced many seasons, it's @humfrz , you can trust him. The white smoke is definitely just a byproduct of evaporation

IF its white like a cloud, and smells like...typical exhaust fumes then theres nothing wrong. Winter tends to show off the exhaust fumes more prominently.
You can even look at other cars around, they exhausts fumes would look all the same regardless of car.

If its white and kind of bluish...and smells like a weird burnt product...you got a coolant leak somewhere.

Simply worded differently from others above....

FIRST OF ALL...51 degrees f is certainly not very cold...yet the air must be moist.

I don't really understand science....yet from experience I know this:

When you turn off a warm/hot engine on a cool day, the exhaust system is of course also hot.

The hot exhaust system for some reason sucks in the damp air after the engine is turned off.

That air/water vapor takes a nap inside the entire exhaust system until that system is warmed up again, upon engine start.

You'll then see what may appear like grey exhaust...seemingly oil burning, yet it's simply white smoke from water now escaping the exhaust.

Best to not look at your exhaust, just simply drive off.
