best way to improve night time visibility
Title says it all. Should I look into fog lights for this? I know fogs are good for fog and closer visibility which is half my struggle at night. If so any specific brand or voltage I need to log for? How are the stock fog lights ? Also, if no fog lights what about HID headlights? Would this be even better to improve night time visibility ?
I could give two fucks about aesthetics or how pretty they make the car look. I'm about function

Should have bought a brz.
Anyways. Honestly, from my experience, fog lights don't really help me in any situation. |

fog lights are pretty useless unless you're in a situation where there is dense fog and you're travelling < 50 km/h (31 mph).
HID's around the 3000k intensity is a great start. Our eyes can see better against yellow-ish light (3000k) than white light (4300k and up).

Lols my god that's obscene !!!
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82786 Anyone care to comment on this HID kit? At 4300 that should be sufficient for improved visibility. If not this kit any other kit? Its just the stock lighting is terrible. I think being so low to the ground doesn't help cast light . I think your all correct when you say fog lights are useless. I had some iny old old car and it really only helped in the immediate 20 ft or less

This thread suggests going to The Retrofit Source or Diode Dynamics for HIDs.

Eh more or less, yes. 3k is yellowish, 4300k is standard yellow/white, 6k is "pure white with a hint of blue", 8k is blue, so on and so forth until you hit purple, which yes I've seen before. Even pink. So stupid. General rule of thumb, anything over 6k is useless. I absolutely love the factory BRZ HIDs, they are super bright, project very well, and have a superb cutoff line. |

I do some spirited driving on some twisty roads at night here is my experience.
Yellow fog lights for wider view and close up. Our eyes see yellow better than white. 6k HIDs for low beams. 6K is the best temperature for visibility. Also, the contrast between the yellow fogs and pure white low beams is optimal. Sylvania silverstar ultra halogens for the high beam. I suggest halogens bc their power is almost instantly on as opposed to HIDs which take a few seconds. Nothing worse than switching to high beam and having to wait for the light to warm up. lol

I got my 5k hid kit precisely for that reason and it was a huge difference. Got them from diode dynamics

I also recommend proper HIDs, I've always felt something between 4-5K is ideal for color "temp". its close to pure white but not harsh and not yellow.

Agreed, I really didn't want the flashy bluish ones out there, no offense to anyone. I still think my 5k look a bit blue.

4300k or 5000k HID kit would be ideal for improving visibility.
