@Agent 86
Thanks for scanning and uploading the instruction images. Figure 2.5, keeping the gap between the brackets at 135 mm is very important. Without instructions I held the brackets against the console while drilling the other holes. This worked out ok because my armrest slides smoothly and engages in the 3 positions, but if I installed it again I would follow the instructions.

Also figure 5.1 shows the correct orientation of the plastic clips in the armrest base. It looks like I guessed right.

I just checked mine today, and yes they are slightly raised. If you hadn't mentioned it, I don' think I would have noticed.

The good thing is that it does not interfere with the movement of the armrest. It seems to be caused by the crown of the center console that armrest straddles.

If it bothers you, I imagine this could easily be fixed with the careful application of heat from a heat gun.

How much would a dealer/ shop charge to install this? I am sure I could do it myself but It looks a bit more involved than I thought at first. I test drove a car and was disappointed that the used one I am going to buy doesn't have an arm rest

I just installed my armrest. I didn't want to drill any holes so I just used double sided tape. The whole thing mounts securely. You apply the tape to the underside of the armest rails (the side that mounts to the console), mount the rails to the included plastic cover/trim piece, apply tape to the sides and rear portion of the cover, then mount to the console. No need to use the template, takes only 5 minutes and is completely reversible

At first I thought the armrest wouldn't make any difference since I never found myself needing a place to rest my arm in this car, but I was wrong. It really feels good and does make driving (especially in traffic) more comfortable

Thank you for this. I bought my new 86 in December, from a dealer in AZ, and drove it back here. The armrest is a $199 option, but they couldn't get one in time. So, I bought one from a local dealer for a little more than that for the part only. No installation instructions included. It was too complicated for me to figure out, so I asked them how much to install it, and they quoted me almost $250. This is a huge help, and I thank all of you who contributed.
