thats more or less the answer i was looking for

Is it going to tear out of the body panels but remain connected to the rods and then the rods cause damage to the bumper as the splitter hangs on and is dragged?

If it were possible to plan for the point of failure in most circumstances, I think it would be generally preferable if the splitter hardware (i.e. screws) was to be the point of failure and the splitter was to then come off and remain in a single piece to be reattached with new hardware. Then again, because of the materials used, the best answer may just be that the splitter tears apart in that situation. I am not sure what the best course of action really is, more just trying to educate myself.

This is the first time I have ever really considered a splitter or its uses on a track, which is also relatively new to me, so the answer to these questions may be common knowledge.
It's difficult to know exactly where the splitter may fail in an off the course type situation. I can't tell you for sure what will happen but I believe the splitter will likely break. The bolts will not fail unless they unscrew themselves via vibration. With the race upgrade, I do not foresee any issues with it coming apart or breaking in any typical circumstances and light duty crashes. If you run straight into a barrier, it will likely break.

Coefficient of lift is 0.179 according to our CFD. This translates to approximately 100 pounds of lift at 100 MPH.

I guess I will expand even further on this since I thought about it quite a bit today. I have tested this (indirectly and by accident) a few times on the street. I have hit curbs at 5 mph, it stops the car in a jolt. I have curbed it multiple times at 10-15 MPH on the bottom side, it sounds horrible but just rubs and bends upward slightly and all is fine from there.

It can take damage. I'm not sure it would survive a crash head on above 10-15 MPH, but I don't think any front lip or splitter for this car would. These are production cars, not carbon fiber covered honeycomb monocoques specifically built for racing.

Keep the questions coming guys, we don't mind answering them .

Yessir, and that is the worst part of this. I don't like not reaching a deadline but it's better than sending out parts that can't be used on the track.

We're looking at having them shipped to FT86SpeedFactory by early September. The bottom bracket has to be cut and bent, then anodized black like all the other components.

We haven't nailed down an exact price yet. We are thinking the kits will be available for under $150 dollars.

I received a PM earlier today about the kits. Again, we apologize for the wait but this was necessary in order to provide you guys with a kit that will work as designed. The sheetmetal component was promised to me by the 25th, anodizing shouldn't take longer then a week. These kits should be available early September.

I will have video and pictures shortly (fingers crossed). Thank you for all your patience.

The lower support should have been done last Monday, hopefully they will be finished this week. Needless to say, I am also working on finding a new vendor who can hit due dates...

Once they are finished I will have them off to anodizing that same day, get them back in a few more days and send them off. I'll have video and pictures as soon as they are finished as well. Sorry again for the delays.

Eric

No pre-orders. FT86SpeedFactory has bought plenty of stock and will have them on the shelves near the end of next week!

Those of you who bought the first, non-logo'd, splitters will have to PM me *when they purchase the race upgrade* and I will send out a full scale drawing to drill the holes for the bottom strakes.

Thanks for your interest, I think you guys will really like the kit .

Parts are done, packaged, and headed to FT86SpeedFactory. A few teasers are below!

Kit Components

Total weight

Installed

I will work on getting videos highlighting the features of the kit, the kit in action, and me placing unrealistic loads on the piece this weekend. I don't want to recommend standing on the kit because that is *not* what real world conditions assert on the parts. However, I have stood on the splitter and it takes the load just fine.
