If money is not an issue, what are good reasons to stick with 1st Gen over 2nd Gen. Curious to know from different angles.

At the beginning, I had a yak feeling about rear end, now I have started liking it. But still, same like you, it is ugly in my opinion.

i like how both look

i think first gen, especially early base models, stays a little truer to the simple lightweight rwd sports car formula...physical tach/speedo vs digi, physical key start, cable driven hvac knobs, sound tube vs sound actuator, it is a little lighter. gotta respect that beyond those things, the 2nd gen retains much of the formula.

I would be really surprised if there were more than a couple parts. Makers of the gen 1 parts are discontinuing parts left and right. Market is shrinking fast. This car is old, even in its new gen. Just my guess.

With used prices as high as they are? No.

I’m seeing ‘20s with miles on them going for over MSRP. With the 2nd gens on the way. Really. Market is certifiably crazy right now. I try to avoid any more crazy in my life than I already being to the table.

Best buy in a 1st gen now is a ‘13 with a blown motor you can get for cheap for a dedicated track build. No other reason to get one or hold onto one unless you absolutely hate the 2nd gen styling IMO.

Probably because any person who has wanted to mod their gen 1 has already done so. Low demand = low supply. Doesn't matter if the car underneath is old, it's marketed as new and most importantly looks new, given the overall positive reviews so far about the new gen there's bound to be a bit of hype that'll get people buying the new cars, and by extension wanting aftermarket parts. Also can't forget toyotas push for the aftermarket as part of their marketing, we'll see if they go further on that support.

The 2013 model year has classic style interior, steering wheel, and gauges. A lot of throwback stuff, like the interior chime is the same as a old-school 90's legacy.

The refresh and next generation added a bunch of buttons and unnecessary computer / digital readouts. The interior chime is switched to a ringtone.

Sure it's ugly, but at least it you ever get stranded in deep water it will float owing to the large pontoons.

One of the reviewers (Topher) who used to own a 1st gen BRZ said he still preferred the first gen due to it feeling more raw and sounding better.

ThrottleHouse noted the 1st gen has better steering feel.

I personally prefer the way the 1st gen looks, especially the FR-S. 1st gen is also a bit lighter.

So there are some reasons. I’ll probably still trade up but it’s not without a few downsides.

Yes. The interior is way more like 90's styling and very minimal.
