I'm not going to take it all apart again to measure it but there's no difference in the throws by feel either. And 25% is significant in feel. I'm telling you, whatever shifter came in my car from the factory is the same as the shifter I just replaced it with. I don't want it to be so and neither does my wallet.

Here's a picture of the OEM vs the JDM TRD quickshifter (which is identical to the STI). As you can see, the bottom portion is slightly longer on the quickshifter. It was the exact same with mine when I held them side by side before installing

So when I pulled out my stocker... there was zero difference on both the top length and the bottom from the pivot to the linkage hole.

EDIT: Also, that's an FRS and I'm really starting to wonder if toyota didn't just change it up later. Even the website mentioned the 2020s came with a short shifter. Hmm...
EDIT 2: Maybe Canadia got the shaft and didn't get a newer short shifter.

You may be right. The Toyota USA website specs list for the 86 does include short throw shifter but not the Toyota Canada site.

I'm glad we could put an end to this mystery.

Also, I have a shifter to post for sale

found it!
https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/vehi...es-performance

Says short throws where it describes the automatic and manual transmissions

So the only thing Canadians got screwed on is the available performance pack/trd handling pack. They just gave us the 18" wheels but thats it.

I can confirm for my 2020 GT 6M i did not have a short throw shifter because the JDM TRD one i put in definitely had a longer bottom end like the pics from the FRS owner. The OEM shifter throw distance wasn't large to begin with though but the car definitely did not have the same shifter as the TRD quickshifter from japan. I wish I took side by side pictures when I had the OEM one out before installing the quickshifter.

Ho-lee shit! That's crazy! Regular folk won't like it being that the cold transmission already needs either double clutch, or a heavy hand.

That's all a fluid issue and not a shifter issue, no?

Yeah, but regular folk don't know that. They just want to be able to shift into second gear.

We have always had the "short throw" even back in the FRS days. There are just a bunch of things they didn't bother listing on the Canadian site for some reason.
There is no "long" shifter.
