17x8.25 tire size 225/45, 235/45 or 245/40?

Going to be picking up XXR 527 17x8.25 +35 wheels and the 8.25 seems to be an uncommon width. I read that 225/45 is a recommended size for the stock 17x7 and 245/40 is good for 17x9, would 235/45 fit the bill as it's right in between?

The tires I'm pretty much set on Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I'd prefer the tire to be a bit meatier width wise for rim protection.

235 would be the recommended size for that wheel

Any of those sizes will fit that wheel. I have 225s on the 18x8.75 XXRs. If you want a bit more protection for the rim, go with the wider tires though.

235/45 seems like the widest you could go for that wheel

Just purchased the wheels and 235/45/17 tires from tirecrazy.com Glad I checked them out before going with the ebay pickup/costco. tirecrazy.com really does have crazy prices, i'm actually surprised they didn't charge me tax since they're just a city away (according to their "contact us" page).

just as an fyi I ran a 17x8 enkei nt03+m on my wrx and I fit a 255 on it with 0 issues. Autocrossed with it that way as well. So much tire that I think it actually slowed my stock power car, 245 was always my happy place. Looked very aggressive though. No clue if that would rub on a BRZ but just letting you know that you can go wider.

Here's how my car stands now with 235/45/17 MPSS and XXR 527 17x8.25 on Eibach Pro Kit springs. Unsure of the alignment numbers.

a while ago, but did you have any rubbing issues on the fronts? ive got 17x8 rota titans being mounted with 235/45/17 MPSS overnight tonight, the mechanic took a look when i dropped them off and said he thought they would rub in the front, but I think hes wrong. just curious, thanks!

I also want to run 235/45 on 17X8+35 to fill the gap on stock suspension, I'm hearing mix messages some say will rub some say it works, don't want to drop to a 40 cause not many brands to choose from

I run 8's and have used both 225 and 235. the 225 is a more nimble feel and the 235s have better grip however they were different compounds by 2 different manufacturers. Regardless I wouldn't go any wider than 235 on those.

My 94 trans am came with 245s on 8 inch wheels. I switched to 275s on 9 inch wheels (also a factory offering.) I don’t know why people are telling you 245s won’t work. 235 is an oddball size and selection of tires will be limited.
