Man I hope so. I'm pretty sure this wins the "longest build" award hands down.

He told me it would be done a couple Fridays ago and then showed me a picture and said the car now had "valve lash" issues, so then he told me he was hoping it would be done next Friday. I haven't talked to him this week, but the man really needs his car back as he is without a car once again.

Wow... "valve lash" brings bad deja Vu memories... FA20club said same thing at some point.

Yep. I am not familiar with how valve lash is set on Subaru heads with the buckets that they use, but it seems weird that apparently two shops have managed to mess it up now. I like the simplicity of adjusting the valves on a Honda motor or my E30 motor.

This is not a super difficult valve adjustment. There is dissasembly and reasembly required. It is just lash caps. Make your measurements and adjust accordingly. If it can not be brought into spec with over the counter parts machine work is required. If you would like to get a basic idea of what is required to get it into spec the factory service manual does a decent job of explaining things. Google BRZ Service manual, you will see the download for it from this site.

Latest seems to be that @PrimeMotoring has the car on the back burner and is waiting on the shop that did the head work to fix the valve lash issues.

From talking with Brandon it sounds like they need to do machine work. My favorite valve adjustment is on an E46 M3 motor where you get to replace little hockey pucks of slightly different heights. It was a blast.

The heads were sent to Headgames many moons ago since I figured being a shop that does nothing but cylinder heads of all makes and models they would get it right. Seemed like Dave did a learn as you go experiment with them since he had never touched a set before and months later when they came in the mail when ready to bolt up, heads torqued down and all, Vince (our engine builder) realized that the lash was never touched in the first place. We spoke with Dave at MIR a few weeks ago he said he would come fix the lash since he was paid to do so and because we do not want to take everything apart again.

This whole build is one step forward two steps back. As it sits now the lash has been measured and we are waiting on new lash caps to arrive. Once they are here Vince can finish it, reassemble it all, again, and get this motor in the car. Everything else for the car is here. After this, there is nothing we need to wait for. P&L turbo kit is waiting, new clutch, AOS, injectors etc etc.

I guess the silver lining is that when this car is finished it will be cheap to insure, since it will be classified as a classic car by then...
