Had it cut by a local locksmith. $10 - risk of the copy going wrong, then you are out $150 for a blank key.
Bought an OBDII adapter from ebay and registered the new key and fob myself. $25 - risk of bricking your ecu/car
So you saved $30? And you had to wait for it to be shipped to you.

I go one better. My apartment door requires a key to lock it from the inside. When I get home, I lock the front door and leave the key in it so that I can get the hell out if this deathtrap catches fire. The fact that I'm never looking for my keys is an added bonus.

Admit it. That's how you get your dates to spend the night.

Nope. They take one look at this old building and say, "Maybe we should go to my place instead."

Not too long ago I had some lights go out. The electricians found bare wires in the attic where the cloth insulation had rotted away. The whole apartment had to be rewired. I could hear the guys up there talking about working around the old gas lines for the original lighting.

this is something I'll be working on once I get my aftermarket alarm/immobilizer system installed:

Super cheap and can be cut at a local lock smith. Fuck the stealership and their over priced keys. I already have them cut and they operate all the locks fine.

I have a routine with my keys, wallet, and phone. If I'm getting off work I throw my uniform hat (airforce) on the kitchen counter, and throw my car keys, apartments keys, and wallet in the hat. If I'm coming home from anything else, the hat is still there and I throw all my junk in it.

If only we had one of these for our babies.

If this was possible and you some how lose your wallet next, there's always a priest nearby.

When I decided to replace the key on my own I knew I wasn't going to save any money. Not only did I have to wait for the key, I had to wait for the OBDII cable and find an old xp laptop to run the software on. At this point the only thing I would get from this was a chance to use tools I wouldn't have exposure to otherwise.

Once in a while a new 'lost my key' thread pops up and people want to know what the most cost effective way to replace it is. I now know from personal experience and can recommend that the dealer is the best way to reduce the risk of breaking something and saving your self from digging a big money pit.

Trust me, you don't want one of those. I've a couple of unfortunate(if you can use the term) Lexus owners sh!t a brick at my counter over that set-up in the past, they can break in your wallet and will go south if they get wet. The replacement cost of one is just one of the "benefits" of owning a Lexus.

Seriously. This isnt even a thought process for me anymore, just muscle memory and instinct.

Weird, previous owner bought my car from Timmons and they only gave me one key too. Said that's all they got and I was skeptcal but after seeing your post I believe them. I did find it odd seeing as the car only had 674 miles when i bought it.
