Welp... I can't really disagree with a S2000 in the garage...

So off topic....

My 1994 EJ was the best! Had way over 100,000 miles on it when I sold it after it was handed down to both my boys.

Such a good looking car even now. The wheels need to be changed though lol. I vividly remember those hubcaps, VIVIDLY.

I find it hilarious to no end that so many people are calling the car hideous & fugly. Out of all the truly tacky, trendy aggressive and horrible designs being put out these days, (looking at you BMW and Honda with all your fake grilles) people are hating on a fairly milquetoast and conservative sports car design? One that will most likely age very well. I mean come on people, it even has fully functional air vents (sadly how many others can even claim such a thing?). It may not be a design for everyone, but it's far from polarizing.

Also fugly, as I understand it, is a combination of f*ck + ugly, not fat + ugly.

This may have been posited before (and I apologize if it's been discussed elsewhere), but I wonder if the new 2.4 engine would fit in the first generation car? If it does, I also wonder how long it will be before the first second-gen car shows up wrecked in a junkyard, and some creative back-yarder figures out a way to put the motor in a first-gen car?

Has anyone looked up the differences in dimensions between the two engines? Would it fit in the engine compartment without radical metal surgery? Would it mate up to the transmission?

It certainly wouldn't be cost-effective, and the odds are long for a lot of reasons. But I'd still love to see the 2.4 in a first-gen car. That just might make it the perfect BRZ for me.

Man I wish I felt like you do! I truly don’t like the design though. I’ve tried and actually look at it frequently hoping it will grow on me, but I just think it was poorly executed in a lot of ways. I like that it has functional venting and the power train sounds like a good improvement, so there are things I like. I just am really underwhelmed by the aesthetics. I can’t find an angle I like at all. Having said that though, and I’ve said many times, I’m glad other people do and I hope it sells well.
I’ve always been in the same boat with the Miata. There’s just never been a generation of that car that I liked, so I’ve never owned one. Don’t even like the ND. I like the front but think the rear is a train wreck to my eye.
It’s really an individual thing, looks. I love my MR2 Spyder, and a lot of people hate that car. Honestly I’m underwhelmed by a stock MR2 as well, but lower it and it’s a pretty sharp little car. And with under 2200 lbs and the mid-engine drivetrain, damn it’s like you’re wearing the MR2 more than any other car I’ve owned. I love my S2000 and my 17 pp BRZ too, but the 2022 BRZ just doesn’t please my eye. Maybe the 86 will, but I sorta doubt it. I do hope it sells well though. Thankfully for the 2022, I’m only one guy and nobody at Subaru or Toyota cares what I think , and rightfully so.

2ZZ swapped MR2 Spyder has been tempting.

[QUOTE=Quentin;3393132]2ZZ swapped MR2 Spyder has been tempting.

Yeah to me too. Mine is a 2003 and other than lowering and the best aftermarket stereo I’ve ever heard (both done by the previous owner), it is pretty much bone stock. If I ever build one of my cars to track in any way, it’ll be the Spyder. Maybe one day. The guy I bought the car from missed it so bad he tried to buy it back from me about a year later. I didn’t sell. About a year after that he sent me pics of his new Spyder. Another 2003 that from the outside looked just like mine. This one he built though, 2ZZ turbo with over 400 hp according to him. Can’t even imagine it! Fire-breathing go cart!

So with the BRZ supposedly going into production in Spring 2021 where the heck is the Toyota announcement? They're taking their sweet time with it.

The last rumor i heard was that it might get revealed during the Tokyo Auto Salon which is on January 15-17.

If its being rebranded as GR 86 and if they have other GR products/models to show off i guess that's when they'd like to do it.

If its not then, i have no idea when it'll drop. I want to see the 86 and decide if i like the 86 or the subaru better.....hurry up toyota!

Seems I recall that same rumor, probably on here somewhere. That would make sense though.

Looking at the Auto Salon website was no help since I don't speak/read Japanese but if the early models shown in the photos are an indication, it looks like it will be well worth going to regardless.
