If you regularly wash and wax the vehicle, including the headlights, you won't get the discoloration (takes much much longer to happen). Also yes, you can get a 3M (or similar brand) tape/film to apply over the headlamp assembly to completely eliminate them from yellowing. Currently that film is usually good for 6-10 years before it starts to discolor itself (depends on if car is kept indoors or not).

The oxidation (discoloring) of the plastic lenses isn't so much the material itself aging. It's the reaction between dirt/particles water and the oxygen in the atmosphere taking place on the plastic surface. Which is why just keeping your car clean and keeping wax on the headlamps can go a long way to preventing discoloration.

I only hope that after the new BRZ/86 generation be launch (wherever it looks, wherever the engine HP's, wherever the HU), people stop to bitching about: "too slow", "not good HU", "is ugly" etc, etc and if don't like it, simple: DON'T buy it... Otherwise, eventually the BRZ/86 Twins will be a part of history dead and no more affordable-sport cars will be in the market, other than the SUV/CUV sea of ugly and numb cars... It's ok that don't like things in our cars, for example, I don't like at all the HU, but I love how my 86 drives, therefore I don't care...My two cents.

If something exists, people will complain about it.

If only...

There are people out there who know what the 86 is all about, and there are people who can actually drive a slow car because...econoboxes exist in the real world.

But there will always be people who want the agility of a Lotus, the comfort of a rolls Royce and the performance of a Bugatti Veyron all at a Yaris price point. Becuase somehow they think its possible to have their cake and eat it too.

And they will crucify you for suggesting something that is a little bit more towards their preference. (like a Hellcat, Mustang, M3, or something) because they want this particular car to be something its not.

Or they'll complain that something doesn't exist, and then when someone builds it, they'll complain about how it wasn't perfectly-exactly what they specifically wanted.

I laugh and laugh and laugh every single time I read somebody complain about how much the car costs and then immediately start talking about their plans to sink another $20,000 into it to make it "what it should have been in the first place"!

See the problem with these people is that clearly they don't know any better about what it takes to get cars at their current retail prices, do you honestly believe they would then realize that they need to spend 20k to "upgrade" their car. They probably think it will only cost them 2k of eBay parts to get it to M2 comp performance.

Moron is moron.

Yep. The guys that know the true cost of modding are not the ones complaining about the price of the car in the first place since they know what they are getting into and accept it.

To be fair, I might complain about how much gen 2 costs then go back and sink $20k into my '13...

So is it then an all new platform, or a modified/updated version of the previous architecture? Because the spy shots to my eye shows the older car but updated based on where all the pillars, belt line, wheel openings, etc etc all are, which all suggest to me that it's an updated of an existing platform.

Many people forget that the Corvette essentially used the same platform from the C5-C7, same with the Mustang since 2005-current (I still can't believe the previous generations actually date back to the original 64 1/2 Mustang). Now all these cars had drastically different exteriors and feel, but they were based on the same platform.

If it is a new a platform, here's hoping that a turbo does come. But I doubt it, and at this point I made peace with it, but I don't know if I can make peace with that and then knowing that the driving behaviors can potentially be significantly different, because the twins really offer a driving experience that is unique amongst modern cars.
