Changing motor, what else while it's easy?
I bought a 2013 FR-S with a spun motor. Got a replacement 2014 motor with 51K miles on it. Going to get a new clutch and spark plugs for sure. Motor was running fine before it was pulled from the car, no known issues. Suggestions on what else should I consider while it's out of the car and easy to work on?

Haha... I see what you did there.
I'd say you're sitting pretty well with that *cough* motor. If the DI driver module didn't ship with your new one, based on what I've read, you'll have to learn how to match each channel of your original driver to the direct injectors. Never done it in person. I'm sure others will chime in. In my sig line see the link to an unofficial copy of the manuals. ...hosted by a most generous anonymous member-owner.

Or maybe it's BS. I'm trying to find the reference to it now. I remember reading it and making a mental note some years back.

Direct injection module was included, so no concern there. But appreciate that tip as it's not something I would have known.

I searched like hell in my notes and the internets. There are three different part numbers for the direct injectors. They correspond to differences in the spray pattern. The only important thing to keep in mind that all four are the same number. No mixing.
But there's nothing special about the DI driver box.

That's a whole different level of BS.

It's been a while but thought I'd update. We finally got around to working on this last weekend. My son and I got the swap done and everything seems to be working good. We were both surprised how easy it was, We were going to have a friend help who has done it before, but schedules just never aligned. We started getting it ready so when the friend was available, it would be ready and quick. We got to a point where it was just ready to come out so we just pulled it. That went OK so we put the other one in and got things put back together. Turned the key and it started right up.

It really was pretty straight forward. Lifting the motor so the angle between it and the transmission is correct seemed to be the only tricky part. I wish we had had one of those levelers on the lift we used.
Other than that, like when I started this thread... replace the plugs and clutch while you have it out. |
