Huh whaddya know, 15th time is the charm.

I watched it on one of the hanger-on sites and yea, it took about 10 minutes but they eventually got it out, then vented the rest of the tank. I'm guessing they aren't building these to "full strength" yet which is causing some of those type issues. Launch is around 9:22:00, landing is around 9:28:00, fire is out around 9:48.

Also, in the original SpaceX video I posted, I noticed it appears that they just barely made the landing pad. I doubt that was intentional.

The little monitor spraying a feeble stream of water under the vehicle in the last image is hilarious.

When I first saw it on the video, I actually thought it was some guy standing there with a hose trying to put it out. Then I realized the scale compared to the 150 ft tall rocket it is bigger than it looks.

How tall would you say the stand is? My estimate is 7 to 8 feet. One thing that surprises me to an extent is the limited amount of water spaceX uses on the launch and landing pads. I recall NASA used a lot of water on launch pads, not just for heat control, but for sound/vibration damping. I have friends who live on SPI (South Padre Island) and they say the noise and vibration is intense.

Assuming you mean the water stand, my "assisted by MS Paint" calculation says its closer to 9 to 10 feet. it could be a little be more or less if I left too much space between stands, or if SpaceX counts the landing feet in the 150ft quoted height.

Reminds me of Iron Man when Tony Stark's robot basically sprinkles some water/foam (can't remember which) on him but he's not even on fire.

Or perhaps I butchered the whole scene.

I think he had just put out a fire, then the robot determined there was a fire to put out.

Rocket Lab's 'Running Out of Toes' launch last night failed. Shortly after stage 1 engine cut/stage separation the second stage did not light. They reported loss of telemetry after. They may have had to terminate the upper stage due to safety.

China landing a space thingy on the "Red Planet" does have sweet ring about it. Ready made planet for Mao's offspring. BTW who claims ownership of the planet?
