Once our Newfie, which is about the sweetest most docile dog you'll ever meet, must have met what could only be considered her mortal enemy at a dog park. She's been to parks dozens of times and was always fine.

Then, there was "the encounter". We were at a dog park, she was just minding her business playing with the other dogs, and this one dog, mid-size, nothing special about her, walked by and our dog just lost her mind. She started growling, barking and her entire back became a raised ridge of hair. We called her away, and everything seemed fine until the other dog walked by again later. Same thing.

We ended up having to leave. No idea why it happened completely unprovoked and the only time it's happened.

some friends of mine, we all go camping together all the time. back in about may, we all went to the same campground we usually go to at least 2-3 times/year, been going for the last 6-8 years now. usually book around 6 sites at a time, so they know all of us well.

4 out of the 6 of us all have dogs, but the dogs are always chained up, within sight of someone in our party, in the campers, or on a leash during walks.

about a week after that first trip, which we never did anything other than hang out around the fire or at each others camp sites and chat--so the dogs were never out of sight of at least 10 people at any given time, the most dog-responsible friends(they foster for the shelter, and are anal about properly training dogs) get a call from the campground that their mildest, most-people loving dog, was 'running all over the campground', and 'bit a little girl'.

they tried asking if the campground had the right site, and dog, because it didn't seem right, but the campground told them no contest, it was their dog, and they can't come back until they have it go through obedience school...

kinda soured all of us on that campground, not sure if we're going back next year...

That kind of thing makes sense. Someone who was a bystander said something similar about the Samoyed who attacked Haru, how they'd known that dog since he was a puppy and he doesn't have issues.

I get that, but if you're gonna go the off-leash thing you should still be as close as possible to keep an eye on them for specifically this reason. Kinda crazy to be nowhere nearby. Like what if a kid pet the dog wrong and suddenly it went full-nature instinct and started going after the kid? Crazy.

My neighbors pitbull used to charge at me while I was doing yard work. They never believed me when I told them what was happening.

About to go to my first real social event with people from work; both civilians and soldiers. I am dreading this obligation. Damn my social anxiety.

Just don't hit on any of the women till you are certain that their husband isn't present.

whenever i'm mowing the very back part of my yard, one of my neighbors dogs likes to run around to the fencing behind their garage, and bark at me but only when my back is turned.

some sort of game, haven't figured it out yet.

Someone recently moved in to the building across from mine, same complex with just grass separating our buildings. There's a rule about no off-leashed dogs in the premises. Well, this guy is constantly just letting his dog run around without a leash. Like he'll be coming home presumably from grocery shopping, his dog jumps out of the car, sprints over to me and Haru yapping away, sounding aggressive but not coming close enough to physically interact. This has happened multiple times.

Then today I had just taken Haru outside, I hear the dog barking/yapping again. Next thing I know he's squeezed under their porch fence and was running toward us, yapping as usual getting closer and closer. Normally I'd kinda just try to ignore and walk Haru away, but because of yesterday I wasn't sure how Haru would react to a dog unceremoniously getting in his space like that. I debated picking him up. Finally the owner opens their apartment door and runs over and says "nothing to worry about, he doesn't bite!"

Well now, spike021, don't be overthinking these "care and feeding" of your dog responsibilities.

I prescribe one for you and a third of one for your dog.

Nah. After a glass of whiskey, I didn't care that their husband/boyfriend was next to me.
