Changing 2013 Intake Manifold to Red 2018 Aluminum Intake CARB Legal?

I have a chance to get a red aluminum intake from a 2013 86 and install it on my 2013 FR-S.

I believe I read somewhere that changing out your intake manifold isn't CARB legal and will get flagged, even if the replacement is OEM.

Has anybody had any experience with this? Thanks.

Technically that is true. At simplest, you can't mod the power train from intake to cat (except for the filter) unless it's CARB certified for your year car. This includes intake tubes of all things.

I would think the red manifold falls under this category as well, as it is certified for MY17+.

In practice, I'm not sure you will ever get cited for it, but at the same time if you do, they could require you to remove it. Same playbook for aftermarket headers and even intakes. It really comes down to the cop who pulls you over and the inspector who looks at the car. Will they notice? Will they care? Depends

That's what I understand. It was more for looks and I hate the idea of a plastic intake manifold. Even though it's actually better at dissipating heat than metal.

I doubt it`s better than Aluminium. Never seen plastic heat sinks but i may be wrong

Apparently the main benefit to a plastic intake manifold isn't heat-related, but interior wall smoothness. The downside is apparently noise.
