Carbon Trunk Swap?
Picked up a VIS carbon trunk that has a garnish not meant to accommodate the factory backup camera, any chance someone out there has the opposite problem and wants to trade?

You could mod it to fit the camera. It’s a small piece.

dremeling carbon is super easy, ive done a shit load of it fitting a carbon fiber belly pan onto a s1000rr. its not nearly as bad as you think its going to be, doesnt fray, doesnt crack, just cut a little square hole to fit the camera. i was petrified before trimming it too, but its underwhelming actually doing it
the chance of someone trading you a carbon fender garnish with a camera cutout for a carbon fender garnish without a camera cutout is non existent.

We did this on my friend's CF trunk. It's not as brittle as you're imagining

Appreciate the info gents, any advice on doing it? Tape it first? Just use a small drill bit to start? |

[QUOTE=HaXx;3372987]taping a border around the square you want to cut out would be a good start, then use this attachment to cut one side of the square at a time. then test fit the camera and trim a little as needed
Ok, and so i'd be safer just starting with the cutting wheel as opposed to drilling a bunch of holes around the border then 'punching' it out? Concern is that it'll be a really small hole and using a wheel like that might lead to it being bigger than needed. |

when making cutout's, i usually alternate between a fiber-reinforced cutoff wheel for extremely rough shaping, and these for the more precise shaping: https://www.dremel.com/en_US/product...93-carving-bit https://www.dremel.com/en_US/product...94-carving-bit when getting within 1/4" of where it needs to be, i'll shift from power tools to hand tools like sandpaper/files to get the final depth. i've found it's much easier to control without going over to easily. and test fit often!
